So if the Alita is updated to Android 8.1 the use of an SD card formatted as internal storage allows a PC to separately identify and access both the SD card storage and the Alita internal storage. With 6.1 the PC cannot see the SD card separately which is not ideal for me.

Have I expressed this correctly? A simple answer that I can understand would be much appreciated.

No, the PC cannot see or access the internal storage.
This is also not possible with a file explorer.
The only thing that can be done is to move the applications to the internal storage via the App Settings.
Otherwise the internal memory cannot be used.
But I prefer 128 GB to the normally free 23 GB.

Hi everyone. After reading the whole thread, I still can't wrap my head around what size an SD card I should get? I need it to store a lot of PDF files, so the bigger the better. Alita officially supports 128gb, but 512gb are fairly cheap so, I was thinking about getting one. Will it work? I only need it inside, as storage. I am not interested in taking it out any time soon.

With all cards larger than 128 GB that I have tried, the size calculation causes problems under Android 8.1 - even with Samsung 128 GB. I reported this, but I don't know if it has been corrected.
I use Sandisk Extreme cards in Ares or Alita - 128 GB for other technical reasons that I mentioned in an earlier post.

Thanks. How about the default 6.0 firmware? I wasn't able to upgrade mine (my tablet never connected to the update app on my pc, probably due to the config file giving me an error (unicode issue?) on the app startup), so I will be using 6.0.

With 6.0 I initially used Samsung 512 GB Evo Plus. But I'm back to 128 GB cards because too little spare space has been reserved for defective areas with internal partitioning - MLC problem.
I can only advise not to exceed the 128 GB for internal cards.

Hm, I really wanted an excuse to get a 512gb card.... I'm not an expert on this and don't quite understand what you mean, but form your earlier post, it seems your concern is with the card's longevity? Is it really going to be that bad if it is over 128gb?
