They seem to be gone, at least from that particular seller. However, there are still quite a few from other sellers.

But it's not a bargain. If you really want them without paying for them you can get them from the darknet like this seller did. The author still gets no money, but at least this jerk on ebay doesn't either.

I don't want them free illegally from anywhere. And don't even care for vampire stories much at all, seeing as they are all pretty much alike. I'm just saying that my inner pennypincher likes free stuff.

The seller did respond stating they bought the licenses in bulk from distributors and publishers so they're legally able to sell the books. Still, I had to wonder since these publishers are notorious for releasing their titles with DRM. DRM free PDF, Lit, and txt without a licensing server and the technological overhead isn't likely to be legal...

I really like the concept the seller presents - Legal eBooks sold for a low price in a competitive market where sellers are free to try to under-price each other. As long as they're legal and authors are getting paid

The seller is full of manure. If the seller truly did purchase the licenses, then the seller would be selling these in a consistent format. Not some in PDF, some in LIT, and some in text. And no publisher is just going to sell off the rights just like that. The author's would also have to agree which I highly doubt. What this nimrod did was to go to the darknet, download them in whatever form they came in and put them together to sell and made up the lies to cover his ass. No way are these legal.

The seller presents a concept of "let's go download all these illegal eBooks, sell them and make money". You've been lied to by the thief.

The authors would not give up their rights to books that stills ell and make them money.

Yes, but copies are only an infringement if the copyright owner objects. A third party can't claim "that's violating copyright!"--because the key to copyright is permission. You can let EBay know that you're pretty sure that person doesn't have permission to sell copies of those works, but that's not enough for them to legally act on.
