See the last paragraph in the first post of this thread for a method of blocking updates to Kindle for PC.

Thanks. I searched the web as suggested and found a few sites for 1.17. Any advice on which ones are safe and free from malware?

I am really sorry to admit my lack of knowledge on this forum, especially since I read parts each day, but how do I verify the checksum? I haven't come across this information before...

The certutil command, which is built into Windows, can be used to verify checksums. Instructions are in the first post of this thread.

I started Kindle and was informed of the new update, I clicked 'skip this version', downloaded my new book, closed Kindle, opened it again and was again informed of the new update. |

I'm on Mac OS X, and my Kindle for Mac also just updated (Despite the checkbox setting being correct). But instead of trying to downgrade, I've used the chmod -x fix to stop it downloading KFX files. It seems to be working OK with Kindle for Mac 1.30.0 (59055), apart from the issue of it crashing on quit, which I can live with.

Why do people still use K4Mac/PC 1.17? Is it just that the files are all in one folder and because you don't need to disable the renderer-test?

I'm sort of wondering why I need/want to go back to 1.17 if 1.30 still works with renderer test? And are the higher versions of it also automatically updating to an even higher version or is it just 1.17? I'm assuming Amazon is just trying to get people of the lowest version and forcibly move them higher up. Thanks, Inukami |

I will stick to 1.17 for as long as I can still download books with it for the reasons you mention. Then I will probably move to 1.24 because that is the last version which disabling renderer-test works on for Kindle for PC. Still possible but more involved to disable KFX downloads after that. I think I've also heard people having forced updates on the later versions too.

I can't remember if anyone has tested the new MacOS update with K4Mac. Does anyone know that upgrading to macOS Big Sur works with 1.26 or other versions?
