Dumb question about the TCL Roku TVs. The remote looks just like a Roku remote. How do you use it to change inputs, and when the input is the antenna coax, how do you change channels? Thanks.

You change inputs on-screen. When I had cable, I used the cable remote to change channels. I don't have an antenna hooked up, so I have no idea how you'd change channels.

Any modern TV ought to have input options somewhere in the on-screen settings menu. I have two very basic small, low-end TVs and they both have options to switch inputs and the ability to scan for available over-the-air channels.

Yes, but the remote shown with the TCL TV looks exactly like my Roku remote--no numbers for channels. And certainly I can't scan for over-the-air channels or access them from my current Roku interface, so I'm wondering how it will work with a Roku TV.

Surely there must be some way to change the input. Maybe you can find a user manual online somewhere to see how it works.

We've already determined that changing the input is easily done on-screen. What she needs to know is how does she change channels for the local stations she gets via the antenna since the remote does not have a number pad.

Then you get an OTA channel guide that looks like this: https://images.idgesg.net/images/art...0944-large.jpg So everything is navigated by the arrow buttons on the remote. The Roku tv has additional settings option for you to do the channel scans and you can edit, re-order and favorite channels from that menu. Edit: One small revision - after you set up the antenna input, selecting it from the home screen goes to your last-watched channel. Hitting the left button opens up the channel guide at any time while watching. Last edited by CWatkinsNash; 11-10-2020 at 04:37 PM. |

Veterans Day 2020
Tomorrow (11 Nov) is Veterans Day and time for the traditional free meal from an assortment of restaurants and fast food places. Additionally many businesses are offering freebies and other discounts. Who qualifies (veterans and/or retried and/or active duty and/or reservists, etc) and how you prove it varies from business to business. I'm including a few links to sites that have listings of what's available. Happy Veterans Day and bon appétit ![]() |

This still seems to be in effect today (sort of, without the $6 drop). I ordered it 2 days ago and it came yesterday. It's kind of slick having a color bedside clock that can tell me the weather and whatnot. And that stays accurate; my previous one (as of today) was a battery operated one that listened to WWVB.
3.25 inches by 2 inches. Their web site says 4" HD+ (800 x 480) IPS but there's some black area around it that stays undisplayable. You can configure the clock display and all sorts of geeky nerdy stuff. (I wonder if I can watch movies or display still images on that dinky screeen?) If you want the full monty geeky stuff get the one that's $10 more; $39 instead of $29. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Lenovo-Sm...liliputing.com From https://liliputing.com/2020/11/daily...8Liliputing%29 Ah-hah: https://www.cnet.com/news/the-lenovo...l-photo-frame/ Last edited by hobnail; 11-11-2020 at 04:32 PM. |

To be precise on how it works: you tap on a source button on the remote, then use the up/down arrow keys to move to the source you want in the on-screen list and hit the OK button once you reach it.

Damn! Decided to buy the TV, waited for the 7 p.m. start of the sale, all excited and happy, and IT'S SOLD OUT! Between the time I added it to the cart and clicked through to check out, it was gone--and I didn't even have to enter any personal or credit card info since I was signed in already at Walmart. Bah humbug.
CWatkinsNash and Manabi, thanks so much for the specific information. So bummed! |
