I have followed ottischwenk way with a 128 GB extreme pro from sandisk (tested with success today) : formatted internally I have the storage displayed correctly (128GB) instead of the double.

So it seems but I suspect if everything goes pear shaped at a future date recovery may be more difficult.

Such a construction is also not designed for data backup and recovery.
This is what USB OTG is for.

Mimas has the proper sd card slot, Ares and Alita with their stupid tray are better than nothing, though.
Perhaps they can be used under water, if not, I don't understand why they went with a tray design, other than to annoy me.

Ares and Alita cannot be used underwater - but the SD tray version can increase the internal storage considerably.
wikipedia-all.zim (38 GB) cannot be used on the built-in storage (it is too big) or on external SD - bigger internal storage (an internally formatted SD card) is required for this.

Mimas is the same as Alita, but the card is in its normal easily accessible slot, not in some hidden tray. You can use a card as internal or external. And I mean you - I personally never succeeded with Mimas, Alita or Ares trying to use a card as internal. The card just disappears, and that is all. The internal space is not increased at all. So I gave up.
This zim format - perhaps it can be unpacked and then used, or better - then re-compressed into multiple files. A software to read it could be written.
Anyway, if wikipedia reading is not integrated with a book reading software to provide one click lookup - then I don't see any point in having it on an e-reader.
I have hundreds of dictionaries/encyclopedias already, and they are integrated with book reading. To me, an e-reader is for reading books, and all the other software on it should be integrated to the reading software and accessible from the book pages.

But exfat sd cards still should be supported.
Because newer android is supposed to supports exfat, perhaps 8.1 already supports them?

Internally formatted cards must remain in the device, otherwise the content is gone.
That's why I like the tray solution because it is difficult to remove.

You can split this file into as many parts as you like, but all 38 GB must be available internally at the same time for Kiwix to work - and this for example. 19 * 2GB (38 GB) files don't fit into the 23 GB of the Alita

I differentiate between work and leisure equipment.
I want to read on an ereader (leisure device) and I don't need space-wasting nonsense like dictionaries or encyclopedias. I have installed Golden Dict on my Tolino Epos 2, but have only called it twice for test reasons. If space is tight, I'll remove this nonsense.
The Likebook devices are work devices for me and I find sources of information on them not impractical. Before I got the Boox Note Air I thought that a lot of memory was necessary - now I use it with my Likebook Ares and find the division of work / information between two devices much more practical.

ExFAT works wonderfully where it makes sense - on USB OTG.
In my opinion, only the system-internal file format should be used in the tray,
- because it is difficult to get there and
- frequent use destroys this filigree construction.
Boyue complies with the stupid wishes of some users and enables Fat32 or NTFS as a portable system.
And to my surprise, I read that ExFAT could also work in ByRead-V3.0.3 in the Likebook Ares.

What about similar thing for Alita?

And anyway, if those zim files can be split into smaller ones, then
it is really a software bug if they cannot be accessed from an external sd card.
It should be fixed.

Alita can use ExFAT over USB OTG.

Why?
I would like to have a lexicon from A-Z available - and A-Z requires 38 GB.
I don't want A-M because there is only 23 GB of space or a very slow reading from an USB-device.

I assume, holding Alita upside down. Because if it sticks from the bottom, its socket will be broken pretty soon. If it is at the top - less soon, but soon.
USB OTG sticks out. An sd card - does not.
USB OTG is not a convenient permanent storage expansion.
OB Note 2 has USB OTG and still it is a failure, because it has no sd card slot.
I tried using it, instead of enjoying books, I was worrying all the time about damaging the device with that sticking OTG (Oh, 'T's Gone).

USB-OTG is also not intended for permanent use - the devices connected to it can be removed very easily.

USB OTG sticks out. An sd card - does not.
USB OTG is not a convenient permanent storage expansion.
OB Note 2 has USB OTG and still it is a failure, because it has no sd card slot.

OB devices also have other weaknesses - they cannot use ExFAT or NTFS.
The fact that they do not have an SD card slot should not necessarily be called a fault.
SD cards are technical garbage because they can only be written to to a very limited extent, then they are defective.

Upgraded one of my 3 Alitas to 8.1.
Those who use the internal light will be happy: now it is possible to mix both colors any way you like, as in OB Note 2.
So it seems that the upgrade was successful, there certainly are differences.

Available internal storage: 24.27 GB
Available external storage: 476.79 GB

When connected to a windows PC, on the PC I see (with the same sizes!):
Likebook-K103: Internal shared storage
Likebook-K103: Samsung SD card

That is all I want. Although perhaps it would be interesting to try this internal storage thing once more, this time with 8.1.
