Bought an external hard drive from Best Buy yesterday.

I'm sure the sale price wasn't actually ending (so many emails from them), but took monkey's advice about getting things now and will just monitor to see if it goes any lower.

I don't think this is a Black Friday specific sale, but since the regular sales thread is locked, I'm posting this deal here because I think it's great.

Vipoutlet.com has various Kobo devices on sale. Today I saw the following:

Brand new Kobo Clara $114

Grade A (refurbished, like new):
Kobo Aura H2O edition 2 $88
Kobo Aura $50.86
Kobo Libra (black) $119
Kobo Forma $213

Grade B (minor wear/blemishes) Kobo Forma $224

I just bought a Kindle Libra H2O from them. Their price was $119, but I was able to use a 10% off coupon to bring it down to $107. Shipping was free. I paid Sunday and received it on Thursday and the condition is like new, as described, including the original box and charging cord!

I don't know how much they have in stock, so act fast if you are interested.

Does anyone have experience with TCL or ONN smart TVs? I'm debating a BF purchase of a 55-inch set. I've mostly had Vizios, and have been very happy with them.

I bought 2 TCL Roku TV's last year -- 43" 4K UHD from Costco for $200 in Mar 2019 and a 32" 720p from Amazon for $100 last Black Friday.

Roku works great and so does the sound and picture quality. Overall, have been very pleased with both of them and wouldn't hesitate to buy another one when needed.

I got a TCL 55" 4k HDR HDTV for my dad a few months ago. He's had no problems with it beyond the stand not fitting on his entertainment center, so we had to use a third-party stand that attached to the VESA mount on the back of the TV. (The TV had two feet that attached on either end, which is common on HDTVs of all brands nowadays, he needed a center-mount stand instead. There was nothing physically wrong with the stand that came with the TV.)

On the other hand, I bought a 55" 120hz TCL HDTV back in 2012 from Amazon. It arrived without all the parts needed for the stand, which was center-mount. Amazon offered me three options: return it for a full refund; have it replaced, which would require another special delivery (they didn't ship larger TVs via normal shippers at the time); or take a partial refund (20% of price) and keep the TV. I took the refund, figuring I could get the part needed under warranty easily enough.

I never got that part. The TV had a two year warranty which was entirely worthless. Getting through to warranty support was a Sisyphean task on its own, as their phone system was in horrible shape and routinely hung up on me. (It took me twenty tries to actually talk to someone the first time.) They also didn't actually do anything they said they'd do. I eventually gave up and got a third-party stand, but by that point I didn't have time to bother with it anymore. The TV's still leaning against a wall unused except for a brief test to make sure it worked. I plan to use it as a monitor for a new PC soon.

I don't know if they've improved their warranty support or not, but I'd recommend you don't count on them honoring their warranties if you buy one. They're decent TVs, not outstanding by any means, but for the price they're quite good. If you never need warranty support, which is quite likely, it'll never be an issue. You can pick them up cheap enough that it's not a big deal to replace them. That's why I got the TCL for dad: it was cheap enough to offset the warranty problems I'd had with them before.

Thanks to both of you. I'm thinking that a 2012 experience might not necessarily be indicative anymore (though I still hold a grudge against LG for a bad TV from around that time!). I didn't know that it was possible to change stands; never really thought about it.

I'm eyeing the TCL from Walmart that goes on sale for $148 on November 11. It's so cheap that it's hard to resist; it's also so cheap that it's hard to believe it's any good!

YW

TCL TV's have 1-year warranties. Most major credit cards will double the manufacturer's warranty up to one additional year. Because of this, the one I got from Amazon has a 2-year warranty. The one I got from Costco came with a 4-year warranty because of a special program they have.

I'm quite certain that I'll get my money's worth out of both sets.
