Thanks, and a small request/proposal.

Hi kovidgoyal,

First of all, thanks for this exceptional piece of software!
I have finally put in the effort to learn it better, and it impresses me with ever little discovery and feature that I learn.

Fantastic work, and relentless continued development and support too.
A real gem.

I also have a small request/proposal:

On the left side of the Tag Browser panel there are small arrows to collapse an entry.
But the area where you can click them is very narrow.
There also isn't an indication if your cursor is on the arrow or on the text besides it.
It could be me, but it is very often a hit-and-miss when I want to collapse.

It would be great if you could consider some improvement there.

Thanks again!
I am finally really enjoying my ebook library.

Not it's not just you. It is one of the factors that resulted in the new feature in version 5.4 - access the TB tree with the keyboard, discussion is here ==>> Using the keyboard in the tag browser

Thanks BetterRed.

That might be a useful option for keyboard jocks, but personally I find that using the keyboard to navigate that panel takes too many actions:
Put focus on that panel, use up/down to select field, use left/right to collapse/expand.

All that can be done with one single mouse click...
(if you hit the correct pixels the first time, that is ;-)

You're welcome, sadly those bits are drawn by Qt the toolkit calibre uses, not in my control.

I have also found the small arrows difficult to use - it's been a while since I used calibre but don't remember it being this hard to manoeuvre the tag browser.

The arrows themselves haven't gotten any smaller, but they do have less white space fore and aft of them

The editor's the same, but its tree has always been keyboard navigable.

Wait, did you edit that image or are you running two versions of Calibre simultaneously? I've never been able to do that.

Thanks for further investing this BetterRed.
Let's hope this info makes it possible for kovidgoyal to take another look at it?

@owb - The posted image is a snip and snap of Version 5 running over a snip and snap image of Version 4.

Maybe - but the editor and Sigil book/file tree browsers have the same issue, but they are keyboard navigable; so for me they are less troublesome.

The amount of whitespace being reduced was in response to a user request, IIRC. This will increase it a bit: https://github.com/kovidgoyal/calibr...ff9eaa59258107

Thanks kovid but I have no idea what to do with that link you gave - do I have to add that code to a file in the calibre directory ?

It's just Kovid's way of saying it will be in the next release of Calibre by his highlighting the change in the code repository.
