New Sony

Hi Novasea, I also just bought the pr-505 and it should be in my hands on Wednesday. The library book issue was the main reason I chose the Sony over the Kindle, aside from the price. I can get TONS of books for free that will get me alot of use out of my e-reader. I am very new to ebooks and ebook readers, but alot of my friends from my reading groups have them and really enjoy them, so I wanted one too. I'm even going to drive 2 1/2 hours to the San Jose library tomorrow to get a library card so I can take advantage of their lending library. I'm from Sacramento, and they have a pretty good collection, but I found tons of books at San Jose that I would definitely read. And most of their books were in PDF format. I can't wait to start playing with my new toy. |

I've also since got a non-resident library card from the New York Public Libary. They charge $100 a year, but for the collection they have I felt it was well worth it. I just sent them a check and a copy of my driver's license and they sent me a library card in the mail. Happy reading! dordale

Hi Dordale, Yeah my boyfriend thinks I'm nuts too. But I'm sure he would do the same thing. He actually didn't even know about e-readers until I showed him a youtube review of the pr-505 last week. Now he wants one!!! I've learned so much already just from looking through this forum. Kelly |

I finally bit the bullet and ordered the Sony PRS-505. It should be here Wednesday morning, but the wait is killing me!! And then a 4 hour charge on top of that. Must...be...more...patient.... |

Libraries!!! I haven't been inside a library in 6 years! I used to practically live in a library but now I'm living in Costa Rica. Can someone tell me how this works? I'm visiting the States in May, can I join a library there (I can use my dad's US address) and then download/borrow ebooks over the internet? This would be wonderful. Libraries and bookstores are two of the things I miss most.

 $50 coupon for Sony 700

http://www.booksonboard.com/index.html At Books on Board (link above) there is a $50 coupon for those buying the Sony 700. I didn't see it until after I had ordered my Sony 505 from Amazon. |

https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/EBook_Lending_Libraries Some libraries offer non-resident online or mail sign up but even then you usually have to physically go into the library to get or activate the card. NYPL (New York) can be done all online or mail. Look into the state or states you will be visiting and see what those libraries offer. HTH

Wow, the library link is great check this link: https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/EBook_Lending_Libraries I will be visiting PA and FL but will check out the NYC library after my trip. One problem might be that I don't have a U.S. driver's license. I think I threw away my expired MD license along with my expired Baltimore County, MD library card. It's always a mistake to throw anything away!!! I do have a Costa Rica license but somehow don't think that will help. We have a Florida address and phone number (it's forwarded) so will give it a try. Thanks a lot for the help. |
