And how likely it is that this change will come some time anyway. To make this now or do it later after other adjustments that have been done must be included. Otherwise I would prefer Option 3. The existing menu stays as it is but user have an option to costumize some things for themself. But it also depends on what options you think could be implemented with this. I´d say to do a poll ![]() but I fear there would not be a huge response - as not all who use FFF are in this forum. And even here not many have taken part in the discussion yet. |

Alpha Test Version Attached
2020-10-20 - Adds 'Actions by Update Mode' menu Under 'Actions by Update Mode', each action (that leads to downloads/updates where there is a choice of Update Mode) has a menu listing the update modes available for it. This is a first cut and it touches some sensitive code, so it's here instead of in the usual test version spot to indicate it is a bit more 'test' than usual. Each action - mode combo also has a shortcut available for hotkeys and can be used with the Favourites plugin. My expectation is that hotkeys and Favourites will be the primary modes of use for these. Ideas/issues I am considering:
EDIT -- There is a bug in this version that expressed when using a different language and the translated strings. Alpha indeed. Last edited by JimmXinu; 10-20-2020 at 07:36 PM. Reason: Remove obsolete test version |

Also, in case it somehow slipped by (instead of it just a WIP thing), there's missing icons here. Doesn't look very nice on the Favourites menu.

I skipped the icons on the sub menu items to avoid menus full of all the same icon. But I can add them.
Also, Favourites lets you check the text if you double-click it. I thought that was pretty cool. |

As can be seen in my screenshot, I used it to shorten down some of the really, really, really, really, really long Job Spy menu item names.

I can't really remember where I was reading it from but there used to be a feature in fanficFare where you can have it save all the metadata for story in a separate column is it still possible to do that?

It's still there. Use a Long Text column(text, not HTML preferred), then look for the setting in FFF config, Custom Columns tab, 2nd from the bottom setting.

I'm having a bit of trouble with a replace_metadata. Again.
![]() Code:
## Category standardization and deduplication category=>\([0-9]+\)|\(Video Game\)|\(Video Games\)|(|- Fandom\(Movies\)|\(Movie [0-9]+\)|\(Comics\)|\(TV\))$=> category=>(^2010: The Year We Make Contact$|^Space Odyssey Series - Arthur C. Clarke$)=>2001: A Space Odyssey https://archiveofourown.org/works/24955804 https://archiveofourown.org/works/22459162 In both of them, "2010: The Year We Make Contact" remained (thus causing it to be marked as crossover). I think I had this problem before but of course I can't remember what I did to fix it. Any suggestions? EDIT: Removing the ^ and $ caused it to merge in....but the second one got marked as a crossover anyways. I'm confused. EDIT: While I'm asking about it anyways, is doing this possible within replace_metadatas? Last edited by ownedbycats; 10-20-2020 at 11:43 PM. |

When aren't you?
![]() I don't see anything wrong with the first line. It removed the '(years)' strings. The second line doesn't catch 2010: The Year We Make Contact because internally: "2010: The Year We Make Contact (1984)" -> "2010: The Year We Make Contact_" which doesn't match ^2010: The Year We Make Contact$. You can either: Code:
## Category standardization and deduplication category=> *\([0-9]+\)|\(Video Game\)|\(Video Games\)|(|- Fandom\(Movies\)|\(Movie [0-9]+\)|\(Comics\)|\(TV\))$=> ## or category=>(^2010: The Year We Make Contact *$|^Space Odyssey Series - Arthur C. Clarke$)=>2001: A Space Odyssey You may want to change the first list to also clear leading and trailing spaces. I would have assumed FFF would strip them, but apparently not running multiple sequential patterns. (I'm not going to offer to change the code for fear of it breaking everybody's existing patterns.) Re: the image question: FFF's storyId metadata entry already contains the number you are extracting from the URL, and equivalent ID's from other sites. FFF does not have an mechanism for populating any identifier subfield other than url. What is it you use your identifier:ao3 values for? Just in case, I should mention: I strongly do not recommend changing the metadata storyUrl or calibre's identifier:url. FFF uses those to identify stories. |

I forgot about the trailing space. Thank you.
Re: identifiers: The ffnet and ao3 identifiers are mostly just to make things look a bit tidier in the book details. Also if a fic is crossposted I can have both of them available. I keep the url: on in-progress fics just so that FFF doesn't have to go rummaging around looking for them in the ePubs. It's just a matter of a few extra clicks to run the search & replaces (and I do it anyways to remove the @cleanup tag) so it's not a big deal. Last edited by ownedbycats; 10-22-2020 at 03:38 PM. |

I'm using the calibre plugin
