Neither the SD issue or the battery would be a deal-killer for me; if I didn't have a Kindle 1 I'd have no qualms about grabbing the new model. But I shall wait and see what the Kindle 3 brings. (Of course, I also said that I'd wait for the Kindle 2 before buying, and that went by the wayside, so I'll see if my inner gadget freak can control itself this time.) |

I think I would miss the device thickness. While my Kindle 1 isn't a clunker, it is thicker (though not heavy), and I like this. It makes it feel more natural, more like a real book, and rests nicely in my hands or even my lap.
I don't like how the K2 looks as thin as a pencil. ![]() |

Is the battery on the K2 not replaceable? I read in another thread that the manual stated that it was replaceable.

I'm sure most people could figure out how to do this, but I'm thinking that would void the warranty. |

When you get your K2, I'd like to read your take on the K2 vs. the K1.

Although I've never tried a Kindle, there are a couple of features that would make me happier about it. I'm a physics PhD student, so I read a lot of scientific papers, mostly in pdf. It would be more confortable for me to have direct pdf support. Moreover, I love the pen support of iRex or Samsung Papyrus (the latter was announced a month ago, see https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35975 ). It would enable me to take notes over the papers (it needn't be "fast and perfect note taking", just a working feature, as could be seen in the Samsung papyrus presentation), and of course, by mean of the pen you could get rid of the keyboard of the kindle, and bring a fancier, smaller and lighter device.
So, on the whole: - PDF native support - Integrated wacom tablet or similar technology, to take notes Hope it helps |

Personally I miss the SD slot. 2 GB really is a lot, but I like the idea of expandability. It's the geek in me coming out...

I officially miss the scroll wheel. Sometimes it takes too long to navigate with the 5-way joy stick. It takes longer to get to a word to use the dictionary (if it's somewhere in the middle of the page). I preferred to use the scroll wheel to make my bookmarks, now I have to use alt+b which is okay but not as fast to me.

If I had a K2, I'd miss the lack of ePub support.

I missed the scroll wheel at first but now I prefer the 5 way stick.
What I miss is the SD card slot. |

I wish the K2 had the SD card slot and user replaceable battery of the K1. I'm not sure it's fair to say I "miss" them; so far I haven't suffered for the lack, but they were reassuring--"You'll never run out of memory. You'll always be able to replace your battery if it dies."
I really like the joystick a lot better for its ability to move sideways, which has made possible a whole bunch of changes that made the user interface more efficient. But there's no denying it's slower than the roller was, which is sometimes irritating. Regarding my wishlist for kindle, on the other hand, pretty much nothing has changed. Put "no DRM" and "worldwide" and "folders or tags" up there at the top and then work your way down to "A4 screen, native pdf support," etc. Actually, one of the things I wish they would do has to do with the Kindle store rather than the Kindle itself; I wish they would clearly mark which books have TTS disabled and which books have DRM. |
