Howdy.
any help would be greatly appreciated. I have been unable to jailbreak my paperwhite Kt4 (white model). I downloaded all the correct files and yet i am still unable to jailbreak. I copied the update_kt4_5.11.0_factory.bin over, when unplugged it says an invalid update has been added and then deletes the file. The hot fix was able to install via UYK no issues. Serial G090 WH05 **** 07H3 FW 5.11.2 (3541880032) I dont see what is going wrong. Anything would be a huge help |

@Sargeywah: It'll come to you.
(Hint: it involves a numerical comparison and the big fat warning about those in the matching Open Sesame sticky). Last edited by NiLuJe; 09-12-2020 at 08:55 AM. |

Hello,
I just got a new Paperwhite 3 (WiFi + 3g US Serial Number G090 G205 ...) and immediately put it into airplane mode and placed the update.bin.tmp.partial folder on the device. Unfortunately, it is already on 5.11.2 and said invalid update and deleted the .bin file when I began following the rest of the steps to jailbreak. This whole idea of jailbreaking Kindles is awesome, and I'd love to do it someday. Keep up the good work! |

Kindle PW3 G090G1
Hello all,
Just attempted to Jailbreak my Paperwhite tonight running FW 5.8.9.2 (3179290002) Grabbed the images from the Snapshot post, extracted kindle-jb-factory-1.3-r16160.tar.xz -> kindle-jb-factory-1.3-r16160.tar -> kindle-jb-factory-1.3-r16160 Placed main-htmlviewer.tar.gz on the highest directory when plugging via USB into my Win7 machine. Ran the search (;installHtml, hit return) Nothing happened. waited a few minutes, repeated. Power cycled the device and it looked like it ran through some sort of update on boot, but still no change, don't see any document saying "You are Jailbroken" Any ideas? Did I miss a step somewhere? @Woh: You *have to* be running the factory image, yes.

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=313086 PW3 running less than or equal to 5.9.6.1 are a special case that thread documents, so the instructions are much simpler because there are much fewer decisions to make going from step to step. |

Tutorial Open Sesame! (AKA., The New & Improved JailBreak Index) and Snapshots of NiLuJe's hacks I'll take a look through this other thread now, but so what would be the best method currently for jailbreaking my device with it's current firmware ? currently FW 5.8.9.2 (3179290002) |

or just this just mean that one should update to FW 5.9.6.1 before moving ahead with the jailbreak method? |

These instructions are specific for PW3 with FW <= 5.9.6.1. Just use the latest versions of the files from snapshots. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=313086 Iirc, 5.8.9.2 is weird (UPDATE ERROR: 16 when installing factory fw directly). So for this, you'll need to install customer 5.9.6.1 then factory 5.9.6.1 before running factory jailbreak. P.S. I've just edited the wiki to make the special cases for PW3 and PW4 more prominent. A definitive 'yes or no' would be immensely more helpful than the last three answers I've received. |

I did exactly what was described above and it's jailbroken and functional now. Hope this can help someone else.

Not sure if it is the right place to post, but since KT4 is benign mentioned in the title, I assume we can discuss KT3 too.
I have G000 K905 Kindle Basic 2 (2016) KT3 FW 5.10.2, any way to jailbreak it? |

KT3 can be jailbroken on custom firmwares 5.8.7.0.1 and lower or any factory firmwares.
So if you have not updated the firmware - yes, you can install the initial factory firmware 5.8.0 and apply jb on it. |
