Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: A Crash of Fate by Zoraida Cordova is currently free It's from Disney Book Group, so it's YA, but it's free.

Quote:
Izzy and Jules were best friends until Izzy's family abruptly left Batuu when she was six. But now she's back, and Jules, the boy who never left, is unsure what to make of her. While on the run from vengeful smugglers and an angry pirate, Jules and Izzy will come to terms with who they are, and what they mean to each other.

Tales from Earthsea (The Earthsea Cycle Series Book 5) by Ursula K. Le Guin is on sale today only for $2.99

Quote:
The tales of this book, as Ursula K. Le Guin writes in her introduction, explore or extend the world established by her first four Earthsea novels. Yet each stands on its own.

"The Finder," a novella set a few hundred years before A Wizard of Earthsea, presents a dark and troubled Archipelago and shows how some of its customs and institutions came to be. "The Bones of the Earth" features the wizards who taught the wizard who first taught Ged and demonstrates how humility, if great enough, can contend with an earthquake. "Darkrose and Diamond" is a delightful story of young courtship showing that wizards sometimes pursue alternative careers. "On the High Marsh" tells of the love of power-and of the power of love. "Dragonfly" shows how a determined woman can break the glass ceiling of male magedom.

Concluding with an account of Earthsea's history, people, languages, literature, and magic, this collection also features a map of Earthsea. This ebook includes a sample chapter of THE OTHER WIND.

So, I'm happy to report that even though it took a day or so, Diane Duane's Doctor's Orders eventually went on sale @ Kobo Canada for $0.99 CDN.

Also still on sale, same price, @ Amazon's Canadian Kindle Store.

Just stumbled upon an assortment of free manga on Kindle and comiXology:

Dracula Everlasting V1-3 (complete)
Destiny’s Hand V1-3 (complete)
Amazing Agent Jennifer V1-2 (complete)
Amazing Agent Luna V1-3 (of 11)
Vampire Cheerleaders V1-4 (complete)

To emphasize: These are full, book-length volumes, not single issues, and most of them are complete runs. In addition, AAJ is a prequel/tie-in to AAL, so you’re essentially getting five out of thirteen volumes in that series for free.

Afterland by Lauren Beukes is $2.99 on Amazon.com
Quote:
Most of the men are dead. Three years after the pandemic known as The Manfall, governments still hold and life continues -- but a world run by women isn't always a better place.

Twelve-year-old Miles is one of the last boys alive, and his mother, Cole, will protect him at all costs. On the run after a horrific act of violence-and pursued by Cole's own ruthless sister, Billie -- all Cole wants is to raise her kid somewhere he won't be preyed on as a reproductive resource or a sex object or a stand-in son. Someplace like home.

To get there, Cole and Miles must journey across a changed America in disguise as mother and daughter. From a military base in Seattle to a luxury bunker, from an anarchist commune in Salt Lake City to a roaming cult that's all too ready to see Miles as the answer to their prayers, the two race to stay ahead at every step . . . even as Billie and her sinister crew draw closer.

A sharply feminist, high-stakes thriller from award-winning author Lauren Beukes, Afterland brilliantly blends psychological suspense, American noir, and science fiction into an adventure all its own -- and perfect for our times.

Here's the links on Comixology:

Dracula Everlasting V1-3 (complete)
Destiny’s Hand V1-3 (complete)
Amazing Agent Jennifer V1-2 (complete)
Amazing Agent Luna V1-3 (of 11)
Vampire Cheerleaders V1-4 (complete)

I found a few more:

Aoi House (V1-2 complete except a short story), Aoi House: In Love (V1-2 complete) [Both at same link]
Arkham Woods (V1 complete)
It Takes a Wizard (V1 complete)

There may be more, all of them seem to be in Comixology unlimited. That's all the freebies from Pixie Trix Comics and Yen Press publishers, though.

No, I don't generally read on my PC either - it's not comfortable enough sitting at a desk all day.

What I do is download the book to my Kobo Desktop app, and import that file directly to Calibre if there's no DRM, or pull the epub out of ADE (which is why I have an old version of that) if there's DRM. Then I use calibre to sideload to my ereader (which happens to be a Kobo currently but I was previously using an Android eInk device).

That's why I said you don't need to own a Kobo to buy from the Kobo store.

Or you can add the Obok plugin (part of the DeDRM package) to calibre and add DRMed books from the Kobo desktop app to calibre without needing ADE.

Don't forget the Modify ePub plugin for converting KePub back to ePub.

Ancestral Night by Elizabeth Bear is £0.99 on amazon.co.uk and KoboUK
Spoiler:
Quote:
A space salvager and her partner make the discovery of a lifetime that just might change the universe in this wild, big-ideas space opera from multi award-winning author Elizabeth Bear.

Haimey Dz thinks she knows what she wants.ght them on Google Play, but since it seems I'm the only one using it I won't bother posting links .
She thinks she knows who she is.
She is wrong.

A routine salvage mission uncovers evidence of a terrible crime and relics of a powerful ancient technology, just as Haimey and her small crew run afoul of pirates at the outer limits of the Milky Way and find themselves both on the run, and in possession of ancient, universe-changing technology.
When the authorities prove corrupt, it becomes clear that Haimey is the only one who can protect her galaxy-spanning civilisation from its potential power - and from the revolutionaries who want to use it to seed terror and war. But doing so will take her from the event horizon of the super-massive black hole at the galaxy's core to the infinite, empty spaces at its edge. Along the way, she'll have to uncover the secrets of ancient intelligences lost to time as well as her own lost secrets, which she will wish had remained hidden from her forever . . .

Velocity Weapon by Megan E. O'Keefe £0.99 on amazon.co.uk and KoboUK
Spoiler:
Quote:
***SHORTLISTED FOR THE PHILIP K. DICK AWARD***

The last thing Sanda remembers is her gunship exploding.

She expected to be recovered by salvage-medics and to awaken in friendly hands, patched-up and ready to rejoin the fight. Instead she wakes up 230 years later, on a deserted enemy starship called The Light of Berossus - or, as he prefers to call himself, 'Bero'.

Bero tells Sanda the war is lost. That the entire star system is dead.

But is that the full story? After all, in the vastness of space, anything is possible . . .
Dazzling space battles, deadly galactic politics and rogue AI collide in Velocity Weapon, an epic space opera from award-winning author Megan E. O'Keefe.

I bought them on Google Play, but since it seems I'm the only one using it I won't bother posting links .
