Okay... well, the date of the file shows yesterday since that's when I updated the firmware, so that's not particularly helpful. However, I'm not seeing any copyright notice, so I assume I don't have the new dictionaries yet.

I know what the release notes say. It's just that someone earlier in the thread said that they had access to the new dictionaries already after updating, which is what prompted me to ask how one could ascertain if one was using the new dictionaries or not.

It's not about being smug - there were MANY posts from people who had ignored the very clear notice that the new dictionaries would not be available until October 1, and kept asking how to get them. The simplest answer is usually the right one, so if the official release notes say "new dictionaries available on October 1" and ONE random forum poster says "I've got them already", my money will be on "official release notes right, random forum poster wrong"

The new dictionary mentioned for me was French-Netherlands, for October.

I don’t know what language they speak in Netherlands.

I moved them over myself afterwards but they did work equally well in either location.

I manually moved my en-en dictionary to the custom folder, and removed the second -en, and it now says English and (Custom), which is really nice.

They do, but to be fair the wording is a bit ambiguous. Combined with an earlier post where somebody seemed to be commenting on the new dictionary, I think we can see where the confusion comes from:

Does the parenthetical statement apply to the entire sentence, or just the portion after 'and'? We now know that it applies to the entire sentence, but it can be correctly interpreted either way.

It can be very easy to interpret that as ... "we've updated our 18 current ones (already), and added 4 new ones (available Oct 1)", which is how I initially read it.

On the Sony readers there are two Oxford dictionaries. I started up one of my Sonys to see what they're called - they're the "New Oxford American Dictionary" and the "Oxford Dictionary of English". As I said before, one is often better when reading US and Canadian books and the other is better when reading English or Australian books.

In my experience using both dictionaries, each had some words (especially slang) that weren't in the other. For words that had more than one meaning, each dictionary generally listed its country's more commonly used definition first.

I was curious if anyone knows yet which Oxford Dictionary is coming to Kobo.

The screen is not reactive: I have to click several times for it to react (to select a word, to open a book, etc) .

Another thing (really less important) : when you click on the little lock to choose the orientation (portrait or landscape), you can't escape without doing a choice.

My guess is that it's something to do with the content you have on your Kobos as the updates have not been slow and laggy.

And despite it all, my question has never actually been answered. Are we certain there will be a copyright notice listed along with the definitions, or is there some other method we can use to determine which dictionary we're using?

The dates inside the zip should be newer, and there may be a prefix_exceptions file in it.
