Same here. I'm on a free trial and just spent one of my two credits on a pre-order. So I'm out in the cold also.

And the last time I was in a "receive a code by email" Audible promotion, Audible seemed to lose the records of a bunch of people, and we had to fight with management to get what were promised, so it's probably not worth the hassle....

That was definitely a mess. Audible's great at hiding, losing, and ignoring things. They definitely could benefit from some sunshine. Transparency beats secrecy any day.

I did a pre-order on September 19, wouldn’t you know it. I’ve canceled it and will re-order it -otherwise I’ve got no credits and need to quit by the 24th. If it doesn’t work out, I’ll let it go; Audible CS isn’t worth the hassle.

Apparently Audible is continuing to devalue the Silver membership; I have not received any notification of this offer. Nor do I see the "terms and conditions" Tubemonkey quoted. I see only a list of "most anticipated" books.

There's nothing I want in that selection, or I would squawk to Audible.

When I first saw this offer, I thought it applied only to the books listed and I wasn’t interested, but the terms and conditions suggest it applies to any pre-order. Well, if I don’t get the $5, I won’t fuss. Not worth the frustration; while squawking usually (but not always) gets redress, right now I don’t need the stress for $5 which I’d have to augment anyway to pick up a WhisperSync title.

As for Silver, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Audible’s not phasing it out. You had to be in the know anyway to get it. Which could mean they’ll let it run so long as a member stays active, but if they quit, they’ll not be able to re-up later on. This seems to be your concern, also.

It makes an interesting calculation of relative values; the Silver plan with its limitations, where for $28 (I think it’s $30 now; they’ve closed that loophole) you’d get four months with limited access, or the discounted gift cards, where $30 would get you only three months but with full benefits.

Even if not limited to the list, there's nothing I want to preorder--I like to wait and see what ends up in Overdrive.

If I am shut out of other sales/coupons, I may have to reconsider the Silver membership. I rarely find anything in the daily deals or 2-for-1s, but I have bought from the $6 sales and the half-price-on-everything sales. I'll have to wait and see.

  How long can I listen to a title?
  
  All digital rentals provide a minimum of 30 days to listen to a book from the time you initiate your first download. With some of our longer books, such as Atlas Shrugged (63hrs), we extend the listening period to 60 days. You do have the option of purchasing a 5, 10, or 20 day extension after you have made your rental purchase.

  How many times can I listen to my rental?
  
  You may listen to a rental as many times as you would like until it expires.

  Can I extend my rental time period?
  
  Once you are logged into your Downpour.com account, you can purchase a time extension for any of your previous rentals via THIS link. After clicking “Extend Rental,” you have the option of purchasing a 5-day ($1.95), 10-day ($2.95) or 20-day ($4.95) extension. If your rental has not yet expired, the purchased time will be added onto your rental. (Example: if your rental has one day remaining, and you purchase a five-day extension, you will now have six days total before your rental expires.) If your rental has already expired, the extension will allow you to listen to your book again for the amount of time purchased.

  Can I have the same rental on more than one device?

Audible has a listing of what books will disappear from Audible Plus on 9/30. I guess this is the place to check regularly so that you can finish any book that will be taken off.

Most of the books going are by Nicholas Sansbury Smith, so I suspect a contract end.
