This was timely. I was looking for jailbreak stuff, but saw this thread. I just sent my mother a book via email, and she complained.
Now at least I know why.
At least I have Teamviewer so I can stick it into Calibre for her and fix it there.

You won't fix it in Calibre, need to upload ebooks via Send to Kindle app.

I've raised a ticket for this with AZ as well (though not hopeful). I notice one Mobi file of mine has been uploaded with the useful title "Unknown", though all tags etc are correct on Calibre. This change makes the Personal Docs storage frankly unusable.

Is there any reason you cannot be reading different books on different Kindles? Do you really have to read the same book?

The problem for me lies with Calibre-converted periodicals. These obviously all have the same title, and even before now it's been tricky to tell different issues apart because it's not like Amazon bothers to mention the date anywhere, and since it's more or less stopped automatically delivering books now you have to go into the All view and bang vaguely on multiple identical-looking periodicals before you find one you haven't already read and then locally deleted. I'll have to get Calibre to jam the date into the periodical title or something...

So if you are using Calibre to email to your Kindle, create a plugboard template that can incorporate the author somehow in the title - if its a problem finding the book C&D. I have not tried this yet but it may come to it. I already have books listed series first, but maybe this will help. However then I have to deal with long crappy titles, and lord knows how long they’ll get if there is a long or multiple authors.

Could a moderator please move this comment to the “trouble with side-loaded books not showing author” or something along those lines? I was the last responder - at last look.

Consider adding the timestamp as the author for your periodicals. I noticed that my catalogs were all being sent with the date as the author, I can't remember why but for whatever reason all my catalogs, unless I manually change it, has the date in full format as the author.

You can do this with the plugbord as well.

Does your send to Kindle app show the actual author or does it just add your name (or whatever name is registered)?

This is what I end up with.

It adds your name by default, and you can change it to actual author just before you upload. Need to upload ebooks one by one I suppose to achieve that, but I haven't tried multiple uploads at once yet.

You can send multiple books at once with Send to Kindle, but if I remember correctly, you can only set one author. So...if you have a bunch of books by one author, you can drag them all onto the the Send to Kindle window, type in the author, then hit send, and they will all have the same author.

Yeah, that's the plan. Of course that means I'll have to figure out how to do it, and since basically the only thing I can ever remember how to do with Calibre is run ebook-convert and calibre-smtp, that might take a while. The UI is so bizarre I've never managed to remember how to use it for anything else from one session to the next. (Well, that's a lie: I've also hacked its ebook conversion fairly extensively for use converting an ebook into a paper book: back then, its PDF conversion couldn't do different margins on facing pages or page numbers properly, so I had to add that. But that's different, that's Python and the command line, it's much easier to grasp than Calibre's, ah, shall we say *unique* user interface.)

How do you do that? How do you do that?

Edit: Never saw that you could change the title or author.

I have the exact same problem, since 9/15. Any MOBI file that I add via "Send to Kindle" email will show up with my email address as the author. The only way around it is to use the Send to Kindle app for PC, which is not at all convenient compared to using Calibre. I even tried emailing it outside of Calibre to make sure it wasn't the program causing the problem, but it still isn't right and definitely is a problem on Amazon's end.

I created an account here just so I could post this and follow this thread. Hopefully someone will make headway with Amazon and get them to fix it.

I think the imperial system is better, myself.

But as for the doublethink necessary for dates, at least with this one there’s no chance of mistaking it. Once or twice I’ve come close to dire consequences about deadlines when the number for the day fell from one to 12 and they were close enough that the opposite was plausible.
