Plugins page [Suggestion for Calibre website]

Can we have a link for Calibre Plugins page under the main Calibre Site?

I found this page (but not a link for it):
https://plugins.calibre-ebook.com/

In the website I just found a link to the forum Plugin category ( https://www.mobileread.com/forums/fo...play.php?f=237 ) under the "Get involved" website menu but among the text and with a low visibility here https://calibre-ebook.com/get-involved

I think it would be better to just have a top URL for plugins (or at least in the download menu) so plain users could find that page when downloading Calibre.

But why do they need the page at all? If you want to download an install a plugin, do it from within calibre, which has a nice interface for it.

that is an option, but I do prefer the web page data to find things I even don't know how to search it for or what is the plugin name to install via the Calibre interface

Use Preferences->Plugins->Get new plugins. There is a Find box top right, just enter a word - like 'cover'

Or if you want to do it the hard way
  • open the the sticky index in the Calibre->Plugins subforum,
  • use browser search to look for 'cover',
  • open the plugin thread you want,
  • download the zip from the first post,
  • go to Preferences->Plugins->Load plugin from file etc etc.

I would like to download pluggins. I don't see how to do it from calibre. The instructions say to click on preferences. None of the installed apps under calibre E-book Management have a menu item labeled Preferences. I have just installed 4.28.

How can I install pluggins from calibre?

Your best option is to go to the calibre user manual.

In Calibre, not the OS
If you have the standard install (meaning you did not 'clean up' the menubars), right click the Preferences icon : Get Plugins.

The alternate is to download it from here (MR).
Then In Calibre: Ctrl-P: Plugins (the puzzle piece near the bottom): Load from file: <the one you downloaded>
Normally, if you are doing a bunch: ignore the reboot step until the last one has been loaded

Need Preference button to Install Plugin, Where can I Find It

I have tried posting a response twice. After clicking 'post' button the first time, nothing showed up. Entering the post again a clicking to post, a blank page has shown up.

I hope I am not flooding this forum due to my ignorance, but here is my post again:

I did not cleanup or any other customization. I have only tried to find preferences. Looking at the GUI help link above, my 4.28 version has a different look and the icon labels only partially match:
Left to right,
I have a green 'add books' icon, not red.
I have a notebook looking 'Edit metadat', not a circle inscribe with an 'i'.
Convert books looks the same.
My 'View' is a pair of glasses instead of a magnafying glass.
I do not have a 'Send to device'.
I have a 'virtual library' icon below the ribbon.
Fetch news matches.
Save to disk have different icons.
I don't have a Connect/share.
My 'Remove books' icon is different.
Both have a 'help' icon.
I don't have a 'Preferences' icon.
I have two buttons near the bottom, both have crossed wrench and screwdriver. One is 'configure', the other is 'layout'. Neither have a preference nor plugin button.

I would like to use plugins. I have the DeDRM 6.8.0 but I don't know how to install it as the instructions say to use the preference button.

Any suggestions?

Send to device only appears if the device has been detected AND the 'Location Manager' is on the when connected toolbar (default on installation)

Icons have 'evolved' over time (versions) and are open to user alternates.
Keyword: (calibre configuration folder) Resources folder
Toolbars are really customizable: (I use all 3), with different icon orders and removal of seldom or never used ones. Additionally, the wording (if shown, another preference) will vary by locale

The first question that comes to mind is what version of calibre do you have installed. It should show in the status bar at the bottom of the calibre window. I ask this since there is no calibre 4.28 version.

Yes, you are correct. I miss-read 4.23 as 4.28.

Mine is 4.23.
