That's exactly what I've already done.

Its just that when you gave instructions to update the system dictionary, I thought maybe it was available in English with the Android 8.1 upgrade. So even though the interface language is in English, the dictionary is still in Chinese. Odd! With all due respect then, why would I want to update the system dictionary?

Sorry I apologise ,at that time, I didn't realise that it did not have definitions in English.
I have since loaded the English Wiktionary Dictionary.(<http://www.dictinfo.com/> )

October2018 =====>>>

this dictionary has a nice easy to read and understand output.

Unhappy SD Card not readable with latest Mars 8.1 Update

I upgraded today to V30.0 0-2020090714 - the very latest version. The upgrade process was quite smooth - carefully following the instructions in the provided PDF.

However, I relied on my 128G SD Card as my backup and primary storage for books -- as most people thinking of performing this upgrade would think to do -- and the latest update is unable to read my SD card.

This error has been noted on the Boyue Likebook Facebook page by others, and there are assurances from Boyue that an update solving the problem will be forthcoming. I write to make sure that error is known in this thread, and to point out that the recent firmware update to the 8.1 upgrade firmware does not solve the problem. Hopefully the fix will be OTA and not require re-rooting.

Also, it is not at all obvious to me that my Mars is faster or better in any way from the update. I was satisfied with the Mars at 6.1, and even recently upgraded to an Alita for large PDFs. Since my Mars is significantly less useful without the SD Card, I recommend waiting before rooting your device to 8.1 until this, and who knows what other catastrophic problem, is resolved.

On the external 128G SD Card, in the root directory of the external SD card, make a new directory named 'books' and transfer all your books to this directory.
reboot
in library page rescan for books.this might take a while if you have a lot of eBooks on SD card.

Now ,As well as Directories WiFyTransfer and bluetooth visible at top of eBook titles on the library screen page will be a new directory item named Books.

open the directory named Books and then all your books ,residing on the 128G SD Card's /books directory, will be visible.
Also if you have a lot of eBooks then it is much easier to navigate to your eBook of choice if you organise your eBooks into sub-directories inside (external 128G SD Card) /books directory(I.E. (sub-directory's named) directory1,directory2,directory3,ETC. ETC.).
Now ,As well as Directories WiFyTransfer and bluetooth visible at top of eBook titles will be a new item named Books.
and on opening this directory then sub-directories (I.E. sub-directory1,sub-directory2,sub-directory3,ETC. ETC.) will be visible to you and on opening one of them you can select your desired eBook to read.

Thank you for your suggestion. However, as I was using my 128G SD Card with the Mars prior to the update, it was already configured with the books in a \Books directory. This Books directory is not visible after the update, and rescanning the library, which performed well in Mars Android 6.1, has no effect.

Arr.... did you originally use the likebook to format the (128G SD Card)?
if so, did you select format it to be used ONLY in likebook mars format option
if this is so then ,if i was you ,i would reformat (128G SD Card) for with use in likebook mars and other devices.
then insert (128G SD Card) into window PC and make (128G SD Card)books directory and transfer all your eBooks from windows PC to this directory. (much much much faster than using usb cable or WiFyTransfer to transfer books to likebook mars).
unmount/eject (128G SD Card) from window PC and reinsert (128G SD Card) into likebook mars

and reboot and continue as in my last post.

have a look in user manual Page 47 item 1.12.The book is not displayed in the shelf.
Whether copying to local machine(mars internal memory) or SD card, you need to to put the book(eBook) in the (your created or existing) folder named books for the system to read.
(read ==> scan books that are located in a books directory (named books) in either internal memory or external SD card)

Also Note that on Linux and (its daughter) Android operating Systems a directory named 'Books' is a different directory than a directory named 'books' and both of these directories can reside in the same directory with out interfering with each other.(Books,books,BOoks,BOOks,booKs,ETC.ETC are all different directories and can happily live ,side by side, in the same directory with out interfering with each other.) the likebook library 'scan for books' only looks in a directory named books.

I am new to the upgrade process on my Likebook and could use some help.

When I downloaded the update tool it tells me that "loading config file failed" when I start the application and all the buttons on the update tool are in Chinese. I tried to continue with the installation but after selecting the update .img file, the upgrade tool never finds my device after plugging in the USB cable. I start with my Likebook "off" and with the upgrade button pressed.

What am I doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks.

Mars Android 8.1 Update - Boyue Reader issues

The default Boyue reader that accompanies the 8.1 Update appears to have many problems not experienced prior to the update. With the update, my Boyue reader concatenates English words that should be separate, and introduces spaces after punctuation inappropriately when the punctuation is part of the word. For the time being I have switched to using KOreader on the Mars as a result. By way of contrast, the default reader on my Alita (Android 6.1) does not have these problems; not did the default reader on my Mars prior to the update.

I had the same problem. You need to install the update tool in the root directory of your PC (a small detail they missed out in the instructions). You will get prompts about granting administrator privileges. I did this and my update went smoothly after that (and it is a lot faster booting up now).

That's because in the update they have changed the default reader to be 'Z Reader'. I think they were premature doing this as it still needs a lot of development. Meantime I'm using Librera in its place.
