And another related suggestion: It would be tremendously helpful if I could see at a glance which highlights in the Highlights Browser have annotations. Currently, the only way to know is by clicking on all of them. Could a dot or other icon be added to the left or even within the new (and fantastic) color/style icon?

That looks like your entire user interface font for the viewer is monospaced. What is the interface font for calibre set to in the calibre preferences.

So, given that dots are already implemented for annotations (which I'm grateful for), I don't see any reason not to implement a different-colored dot for non-annotated highlights.
It's nice that you dont think they are expensive, I disagree. And you are proposing they be implemented for every annotation and then if they are implemented for every annotation, that means something else will need to be implemented to indicate an annotation has notes. I'm afraid, having lots of contiguous annotations in the same color, is not a common use case and I am not either uglifying or adding dots to them for it.

Suggestion 1: Make it possible to remove, modify, export and show the highlight by right clicking on a highlight in the Highlights panel.

Suggestion 2: Shows color swatches in the highlight list of the Annotations browser

Suggestion 3: Make it possible to remove, show in library, show in book and export by right clicking on a highlight in the Annotations browser

I haven't set any fonts - they are all on their default settings. The book text appears to be a Serif, the interface is Sans-Serif and the annotation window is Monospace, which seems to match the settings:

Name:	fonts.png
Views:	174
Size:	21.1 KB
ID:	181951

It would appear that if I change the monospace family to something like Arial, that the annotations are no longer in monospace. But it also appears that I need to change this for every book. Is there a setting elsewhere that allows me to set global font settings?

Still, this doesn't seem like a solution as it would also eliminate the opportunity to have monospaced font where a book calls for it. I hope you'll have some suggestions for how I can fix this or what could be changed within Calibre to do so.

Re: marker for highlights without annotations. I still disagree, but its obviously up to you, so I'll drop the issue. Thanks for the consideration.

A suggestion I've made a few times, but I don't believe has been either accepted or rejected: a "Expand/Collapse All" button for highlights. It would help with navigating them in a book with many chapters and highlights. This would be even more important to have in the Annotation Browser as well.

I also cosign jony08's 3 suggestions, while adding a suggestion for having annotations in the Annotation Browser demarcated by collapsible chapter headings.

OK this is endless. No more feature requests. I am really beginning to regret adding annotations to calibre.

I just want to publicly applaud Mr Goyal for his patience in responding to the ever-growing string of requests that have lengthened this thread. Many of them make me think of a phrase from Douglas Adams "the sea was exactly the wrong shade of pink." As a lurker in this thread, it has seemed to me that every time an adjustment was made, most often in response to a user's request, the response was "thanks, but I want THIS too". Bravo Mr Goyal for handling it all with such grace and aplomb.

Fixed in next release, apparently chrome uses monospace fonts for textarea by default.

I was thinking more of a Rudyard Kipling poem with its lines "once you have paid him the Danegeld/ You never get rid of the Dane". Or was that give them a centimeter and they'll demand a kilometer?

"Give them 25.4 millimetres, they'll take 1609 metres" - but it may sound snappier in non-SI units, I believe.

Hear! Hear! I could not agree more. I consider conduct like this inconsiderate and greedy.

I'm sorry to hear that, but now it's over and I am out of things that need to be fixed. I wanted to help make this a finished product when it was released, better to not forget something that need to get fixed later.

Bug reports are most welcome. Feature requests, not so much. I want this to stabilize and release calibre 5. Future improvements can be left for after the 5 dust has settled. There are anyway going to be a whole host of bugs caused by the python 3 transition.

Don't let me hold you any longer, I'm really looking forward to the calibre 5 release. I'm very grateful for your hard work that you put in to make this release.
