Annoying series behaviour
I have some books which belong to a serie. So far so good.
But when i get a new book of that same serie the hassle begins:

book 1 Serie [1]
book 2 Serie [2]
...
When i get a book which is in middle of a serie and i change the serie (sometimes the series-name differs), the number of the serie gets changed too:

book 1 Serie [1]
book 3 Serie [3]
book 2 Serie Series [2] (name provided by the metadata)
I change Serie Series to Serie and the number changes to 4, so i get
book 2 Serie [4] which is wrong.

Next problem is when i change a whole series-name with multiple books
the whole serie is getting numbered completely different. It would be great if the numbers would stay same even when i have multiple series names like this:

book 1 Serie [1]
book 2 Serie Serie [2]
book 3 Serie Series [3]
book 4 Seri [4]
book 5 Sere [5]
book 6 Sere Serie [6]
If i want to change all names to "Serie" i get a complete new numbering which has nothing to do with the original numbering.

At the end it would be great if on changing a series name the numbers wont get touched in any way.

Go to Tweaks in Preferences and check out Auto Increment Series Index.

It was set to false, i changed 'next' to 'no_change'.

Ähm, what? Sorry, this i dont understand...
Right-click on series name gives me "back, again, cut, copy, paste, delete, mark all, change (Indent?)"
this is in "metadata edit"
in list view i get the standard-menu: "edit metadata, send to device..."

Use the layout button (bottom right) to show the Tag Browser (appears on the left).
In the Tag Browser, right-click on "Series" and select "Manage Series". You can then change the series names for all books in a series at once.

Sorry, i even dont understnd this. Where to find the "tag-browser"? Metadata-edit? List-view? Somewhere else?
What is the tag-browser? How can i find this?

ok, thanks. took me a while to understand what you meant. I normally mark the affected books, change to "edit all metadata" for the selected books and change here the series name. So i have to change only one time, not for every single series-name which is wrong...

GET the PLUGINs (on the Help Menu): Manage Series.
(also allow re-numbering) of the entire series.
Just select all that belong, then invoke the Plugin
fix the incorrect name first, then use the PI to fix the order (drag/Arrow or Lock a number)
