Yes, I like a clean work area so I can actually work. Clean off your own area. Quit coming over and spreading out your crap in my area just because it's the only space clear of clutter. I can't work when you do that! I stepped away for 5 seconds, I shouldn't have to stand there and wait for you to move your sloth-like behind so I can get back to my computer and keep working.

Heh. I am fairly lucky in my co-workers. I do find I have even less desire to deal with people now than when I was younger, though.

On impulse, (as it flew by my eyes), I bought the Doc Savage Kindle eBook off of Amazon--without looking inside, DUM DUM DUMB.

It's the old DP version and it hasn't been cleaned up AT ALL. It's block-style paras, with no space between.

Yes, I CAN clean it up, but I shouldn't bloody have to, dammit.

True, but you know, I did that with the Philo Vances from DP-Oz and that was annoying, too--whomever did the formatting put footnotes IN TABLES! Gadzooks. Tables?

Both versions (forget Conde Nast!), are the DP versions. One's been somewhat cleaned, the other not at all with block-style paragraphs, no space between which always makes me wince.

The other small problem with them is that it doesn't have today's enhanced formatting (a fancy term for what is basically AI-hyphenation) and it's noticeable, once you're used to the EF.

More sighing. Who knew that Doc Savage, poor lad, would cause me so much irritation this weekend?

You do know that these are in the public domain. Or at least they are in Canada. And have been converted to eBooks by a team of volunteers who have demonstrated rather more care than Conde-Nast likely did.

first, I've donated time to DP, so...my next comment isn't a slam at them, but the version I got that was not formatted remotely correctly WAS the DP Canada version. Block-style paragraphs, no first-line-indent, no space between (for block style, I mean...it's necessary). I do not know why on earth it would come out that way, but, sho'nuff, it did.

Anyway...another kind soul--two of you, in fact--have pointed me to the old BM archives and I'm cheerfully Doc Savaging my way through September. At least, that's my plan.

Discussions of how to obtain the Canadian versions in the UK or USA are therefore not encouraged on MobileRead.
