New display tech?
Saw this article. Looks interesting, and they compare it to eInk...
https://www.engadget.com/tcl-nxtpape...110057051.html ...it'll be interesting to see how it really compares. |

@tourneur
When you use a Youtube video, you just need the last part of the URL. For your post, you used https://youtu.be/Tv_NksPKnuw where was needed. Last edited by DNSB; 09-04-2020 at 11:40 AM. |

I think (if I understand the articles correctly) that this is LCD technology without a backlight but with a highly reflective surface. It's supposedly 65% more power efficient, which means to me that, if you charged your current LCD tablet once a day, you should be able to charge this device once every two or three days instead. Definitely not comparable to E-Ink in this regard.

Good news.
TCL Debuts the Company's NXTPAPER Display Technology Along With TCL 10 TABMAX and TCL 10 TABMID Tablets at IFA 2020. On the other hand, the "perfect" reflective display doesn't exist. Then, there are 3 options: eInk 6"colour display, this new 10" TCL display or the vaporware Clearink. Nothing else. NOTE: The news is wrong, the display of these tablets are the typical IPS LCD and not the NXT Paper. You are advised. Last edited by Jose Manuel S; 09-08-2020 at 11:19 AM. |

It really depends on how well the display is readable. |

It dates back to the PDA era and the last century: https://xcsoar.fandom.com/wiki/Hardware/PDA_Displays Those used to be low res displays so the tech is ripe for updating (say with microLED frontlights) but there's nothing magical there. |
