Any way to revive dead Kindle?
I have a 32G Kindle Oasis which is about 2 years old. The other day I opened the cover, and it crashed while closing the screensaver and opening the book I was reading. I now have the screensaver on the right hand side of the screen and a patch of white with vertical black lines on the left.
I tried resetting it (press power and hold: power light is green, then flashes orange a few times before going out) but nothing changed except that the backlight came on and went off again after a while. I tried this several times, with the same lack of result. I plugged it into my computer, and though I didn't get the "USB connected" screen, I could access it without any trouble. I downloaded "My Clippings.txt", then left it for a day. The following day, I tried resetting it again, but now the power light comes on green, then goes out -- no flashing orange any more. I'm now waiting for the battery to go flat in the hope that it will reset itself when it loses power. Does anyone know of anything else I could try? I'm reading books on my phone now, which is less than satisfactory, but I don't want to spend money on a replacement until I've exhausted all the possibilities. |

"[V]ertical black lines on the left..."
I hate to say this, but it sounds like a broken substrate. I hope I'm wrong. HOWEVER, I have vertical black lines in different places on my cosmetically spotless Oasis 1. I suspect a cable may be at fault. It now sits in a drawer. I would love to use it, but don't know exactly how to test it. (Keep in mind where I live.) ADDED: There's nothing else wrong with mine, except for some black lines. Last edited by Dr. Drib; 08-30-2020 at 09:23 AM. |

You have a broken substrate, based upon the bottom area of your image.
Your best bet is to buy a new eink reader. (Yours is quite different from mine, which has only has a series of vertical black lines. Mine is still 'readable'. I'll post a photo of mine.) Last edited by Dr. Drib; 09-01-2020 at 09:54 AM. |

I agree with Dr. Drib. That's a broken glass substrate. There's nothing to be done.

Yes Dogs no case (this is arguable) careless use backpack extreme temperature fluctuation (when there may be a hairline crack) having it fall on your nose when lying on your back while reading putting it down heavily (harder than you intended) loaning it to a friend, lover, mistress, wife (or all four) and having them not treat it as carefully as you would treat it misc |

I guess heads are still harder than ereaders.Yes, it's unfortunate how these things sometimes break. I had my Oasis 1 for only a few months, but living here in this country is a definite NEGATIVE when having to return something - or even buying something, for that matter. I get even by joining, cancelling and then rejoining Kindle Unlimited. (I am not recommending this to anyone; this is simply my solution.) My Oasis 3, on the other hand, is rock solid.
