Die For Me, the final book in the Villanelle/Killing Eve trilogy by Luke Jennings, is a 99p Daily Deal at amazon.co.uk.

It's probably the same price at Kobo, but they seem to be having some technical issues at the moment with error messages popping up all over the place.

Several titles in the historical mystery series featuring Kate Haywood and the young Princess Elizabeth have dropped in price at both Kindle US and UK. To make it easy for any moderator who may not be familiar with this series, all five of the titles were originally traditionally published - you can just click on the "mass market paperback" version to verify. I've also read and enjoyed several titles in this series.

If you want to get a "regular" link, rather than the Smile link, just replace "smile" in the URL with "www".

A Dead Liberty is the 12th in the CD Sloan/Constable Crosby series by Catherine Aird, one of my top five favorite series. It has dropped to £0.99 at Kindle UK. As an Open Road title, this goes on sale only rarely in the UK...

Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00VUC3HRA
Kindle UK/Smile: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00VUC3HRA

Spoiler:
Quote:
A crime of passion, a jealous admirer, a woman who would kill before she would be spurned—it might all fit if only the primary suspect would talk in CWA Diamond Dagger winner Catherine Aird’s Dead Liberty

Lucy Durmast waits patiently in front of the judge at her own murder trial, refusing to utter a single word. Kenneth Carline, an employee of her father’s, was found poisoned to death after eating a meal that Lucy herself had prepared.

Kenneth was set to marry another, and Lucy, it seems, was jealous. But what should have been an open-and-shut case of envy-driven murder becomes complicated when primary detective Trevor Porritt suffers permanent brain damage. C. D. Sloan inherits the file—and immediately begins poking holes in what looked like an airtight case. Why has the primary suspect gone mute? What was the victim doing with antinuclear pamphlets in his car? Was Detective Porritt’s run-in with the burglar an unhappy coincidence? And what part does the king of the African nation of Dlasa, a client of Lucy’s father, play in all this?

When someone connected to the case dies and the son of the king of Dlasa goes missing, panic begins to spread. Can Inspector Sloan and his hapless assistant, Constable Crosby, untangle this knotted web?

The Master Key by Masako Togawa is $1.99 at Amazon US.

This is tagged as book 19 in a series, but it is a publisher's series. This is the author's first book.

Quote:
The prize-winning debut mystery from one of Japan's best-loved crime writers

The K Apartments for Ladies are occupied by over one hundred unmarried women, once young and lively, now grown and old—and in some cases, evil.

Their residence conceals a secret connecting the unsolved 1951 kidnapping of four-year-old George Kraft to the clandestine burial of a child's body in the basement bath-house. So, when news comes that the building must be moved to make way for a road-building project, more than one tenant waits with apprehension for the grisly revelation that will follow. Then the master key is lost, stolen and re-stolen—and suddenly no-one feels safe.

On their website, Pushkin Vertigo says that their mission is to feature “crime writing from across the globe”, and so their "series" is just that - a collection of mysteries by various authors from various places around the globe. It's a little bit like Amazon Crossing, but Amazon Crossing never piled all of their translated books into one "series".

It kind of reminds me more of the really old Dell "mapback" paperback series that featured a map on the back as sort of a unifying branding element, but were by various authors. Or the somewhat later Dell "Murder Ink" series that did the same thing with a special logo, while still having mysteries by multiple authors.

I don't know if an attempt at branding like that is going to work these days or not...

The Wolves of Savernake is the first in Edward Marston's Domesday Book series, which has, I think, not been available in e-book until quite recently. I have very fond memories of buying the early paperbacks in this series on business trips to the UK, and then pretty much reading them all on my plane flights home to the US. It now looks as if Marston may have gotten the rights back, at least to some of the early ones, and is getting them put out in e-book by Allison & Busby. (I think my old paperbacks were published by Headline ???)

Anyway, Wolves has dropped to $1.49/£0.99 at Kindle US/UK, and it looks as if a few more early titles are out or on the way soon, at fairly reasonable prices in UK, not so much in the US.

Ralph Delchard, a soldier who fought at the Battle of Hastings, and Gervase Bret, a talented lawyer, have been commissioned by William the Conqueror to look into irregularities brought to light during the compilation of the Domesday Book, the great survey of England. Their investigations take them throughout the kingdom, but the pair often find themselves embroiled in more sinister mysteries in the towns they visit. The King’s work is a dangerous business.

A man’s body is found mutilated in Savernake Forest and the residents of Bedwyn sleep uneasy at night, fearing a monster stalking the town. When Ralph Delchard and Gervase Bret arrive, they soon discover that the locals are harbouring dark secrets and that the real killer may be a little closer to home…

Right. Or Fawcett Gold Medal or Hard Case Crime. I just pointed it out in case someone wasn't sure about picking up book 19 in a series.

Yep, and I didn't mean to trivialize - just adding info, and actuallly I'm a good example of who your comment was aimed at, since I ended up looking up Pushkin Vertigo a while back trying to figure out what in the heck was going on , after I read two titles in their "series" by Seishi Yokomizo, and then got confused that there was a "series" that wasn't just Yokomizo's books.

I'm still not sure that this sort of branding will work now, because I think folks are a lot less likely these days, with all of the info available via the Internet, to follow someone else's recommendations in that way. OTOH , I admit to having tried a couple of Amazon Crossing books that I was otherwise sort of meh on, and AC was one factor in trying them since I had liked other AC books. But that's more an imprint than a "series".

Herald of Hell is the fifteenth in the Brother Athelstan series by Paul Doherty. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle US, not at Kobo US, at least as of now. This title was not part of the big Paul Doherty sale a couple of years (???) ago - at least AFAIK, since it's still on my wish list.

A medieval mystery featuring sleuthing monk Brother Athelstan

May, 1381. The Great Revolt draws ever nearer. The Upright Men openly roam the streets of London, waiting for the violence to begin. Their mysterious envoy, the Herald of Hell, appears at night all over the city, striking terror into the hearts of those who oppose them. But who is he?

When his chancery clerk is found hanged in a notorious Southwark brothel, the ruthless Thibault, John of Gaunt’s Master of Secrets, summons Brother Athelstan to investigate. Did Amaury Whitfield really kill himself following a visit from the terrifying Herald of Hell? Athelstan is unconvinced.

In the dead man’s possession was a manuscript containing a great secret which he had been striving to decipher. If he could only unlock the cipher and interpret the messages being carried to the so-called Herald of Hell, Athelstan would be one step closer to catching the killer. But can he crack the code before the Great Revolt begins?

POWER IN THE BLOOD

A missing mom and a suspicious death force a reluctant detective out of self-imposed exile in this fast-paced mystery thriller.

Detective John Jordan thought he had put murder investigation behind him for good—his own good. Leaving Atlanta, he returns to Florida in search of the serenity that has so long eluded him.

Until he witnesses the shocking and bizarre death of an inmate in state prison custody and is asked to find a missing mom by her young children. John realizes he can't run from his true calling any longer.
