True Story

In a little town in north cental Arkansas, there is a fall event called "The Turkey Trot".

Its a fun, family event, lots of activities, an outdoor festival. I lived near here for 12 years, and a more wonderful group of people you cannot find.

However, my first year there, we attended, and were idly browsing the stalls, when someone yelled "Theres the plane"!

Sure enough, here comes a very low flying little plane, you see the doors open, and they start throwing out turkeys.

These damn turkeys caught wind drafts, and glided safely to the ground Kids screeching ran after them, and any they caught, they were able to keep for a future dinner. This wasn't as easy as it sounded, as they usually headed for the closes tree, etc. And they can run like crazy, especially when being chased by several shums. ( a LOT of poor people in that area)

I never heard of a turkey being harmed by this, but of course there were always the yankees who move there yelling about animal cruelty and such. I don't know if they are still doing it....but I will never forget my first sight of those turkeys just a gliding away, flapping their wings...............
