They're not synonymous. Flashlighting occurs when the front light doesn't spread uniformly across the light layer and you can see some bleed at the edges that come off on cones just like the beams of flashlights.

Front lighting refers to the entire lighting system.

This was an interesting review, albeit very US-centric (as is usual) and very subjective.
So what? I'm not a professional reviewer and I live in the US. Also it has subjective elements in it, it is not completely or very subjective. It seems that is your unusual way of saying that you disagree with my hot take on the Clara shell which is one sentence in the entire review.

I'd never heard the term before. I assumed you were just referring to the front lighting.

To clarify, I wasn't the one complaining that the review is US-centric and I defended your right to be subjective. It's a review. Of course it is subjective. And the Clara is a nice reader, but it does feel cheap.

Your first quote has my name. Your second quote doesn't have the other user's name, but that wasn't me.

The Nia is essentially the Aura2v2 in a Clara case.

I like the power button on the back, like the Aura 2 and Voyage. So I think that a definite step down for the Nia. But I understand standardization. When the Aura 2 originally came out the button also on the back for the Aura One and H2O v2. That was Kobo's standard at the time.

I understand standardization. But if Toyota designed a car where the steering wheel was in the back seat, it likely wouldn't be a good idea to design all their cars the same way for the sake of standardization.

Most current, traditionally shaped, eReaders have the power button on the the bottom. I guess this makes them cheaper to manufacture by keeping the buttons and ports in one area. Personally I think the top bezel power button makes more sense, that's where the pre-Kobo Tolinos put it -- also the older Kobos.

I liked the review and appreciated its existence. The Clara HD's plastic doesn't concern me, since I sheathed it in a blue cover moments after I received it. I'll either buy a second CHD for travel or await the next ereader that Kobo seems poised to release.

My suggestion is to wait to see what the new Kobo is going to be like before buying.

Loved the review. Thanks for your insights.

I think I'll pick up a Nia for a kick around ereader when they go on sale at $50.
