That's been in every single firmware revision since I bought my first kobo.
I use that heavily.

Perhaps he meant sorting the whole collection list, rather than sorting within a collection?

There is sort by date created. Admittedly since I have a massive two collections (Finished and Shortlist), it's not a matter I feel is very important. I gave up on collections when I realized that I had too many collections to make them useful. Search is a much better tool when you realize that you have over 200 pages of collections.

i use multiply collections all the time it's the main reason why i still use the old tiled home screen/firmware. if i could sort the whole collection list by recent like it can be done when in authors or books the trade off would be worth upgrading to the latest firmware.

As I said, I had too many pages of collections to make them worth using. Cutting the number of collections gave me collections that were too large to use as a collection of several hundred books is pretty much useless.

As I've mentioned often enough, search is, for my uses, a superior solution. Hence, my current 1 personal collection and 1 Kobo supplied collection situation.

Currently, my Clara HD has 11K+ books with 3467 authors, 3001 series, etc. So yeah, collections stopped working long ago. Why do I have that many books on my Clara HD? Mostly just to see if I can. My Forma is limited by the amount of storage but even so I currently have about 3500 books on it.

with the greatest respect as i've already said more than once (i) do use collections. let's say for example i have 300 collections what's wrong with wanting to sort that list by most recently used? the option is already available for author and books so why not for collections.

please explain to me how does using the search function help me quickly access the most recent 10 collections i've opened from my entire collections list of 35 pages?

i wouldn't dismiss any new added feature/option just because i personally wasn't going to use it.

best wishes koboy

Yeah, I don't like the 3.x firmware for that reason, and I'm glad Kobo did away with that.

I didn't think of it that way! I've updated all 4 of my Kobo e-readers, and am getting used to it!

Another study which tested people's ability to notice flicker due to PWM showed that the overwhelming majority of the people who complained about the flicker from a 400Hz source also complained about the flicker from a DC source (the testees did not know that there were two different light sources involved to eliminate placebo effects). Admittedly, this test was based on testing people's reactions to PWM car tail lights but the principle is the same.
Thanks for the correction!

However, I do still miss the "Go to page" prompt, which was useful for navigating through my wish-list.

Apart from this, I can live with the new design. It isn't so bad.
I too am hoping that Kobo adds an option to allow the bottom navigation to be customised in one way or another, as I want to add the Pocket "My Articles" menu in between "My Books" and "Discover".

if i had 200 pages of collections being able to sort the list by the one's most recently used would be extremely useful/essential.

Wow, and I thought my nearly 600 epubs (and many of those are multi-volume collections, so the number of individual books is probably closer to 800) was excessive.

I suspect adding, debugging and testing the functionality to allow sorting collections by last access time would not be worth the number of people who would consider such a function useful. The database does have a field for last modified and last accessed time in the Shelf table so most of the work on that end has been done however an index for the last accessed/modified time would need to be added.

I don't search for collections. I search for authors, titles, series, the occasional Kobo store book, the occasional library book. As mentioned all too often, I found collections un-useful when I made them granular enough to be worth having.

Not just I personally would not use it. It's also that I don't see that the number of people who would use that functionality is sufficient to justify the development cost.

And because I can't resist... a new keyboard with a functional shift key would keep you from appearing to be the re-incarnation of e.e. cummings. Though it was tempting to type my entire response to you in UPPER CASE.

Nope. It has a 32GB replacement uSD card. I like playing with my toys.

I actually did look at how many books I could stuff into the just over 6GB available with the stock 8GB uSD card. Mostly, this was done by reducing the cover size since in many of my epubs, the cover is a large chunk of the size. For my testing I went with 250xYYY (most of my covers are either 3x4 or 10x15 aspect ratio). I tried the Resize cover calibre plugin but was not happy with the results so I used a batch file to run Imageworsener with the height set to x0.25, convert to greyscale, etc. against a copy of my calibre library. I managed to stuff about 8000 epubs into the available space before the .kobo-images folder growth which I hadn't allowed for caused me to run low on space. The entire project took me longer than expected since I got into playing with dithering algorithms and the effects they had on the output.

The final batch file simply stepped through my calibre library and ran imageworsener against each cover file. After that was done, I used Modify Epub to embed the covers.
Code:
imagew.exe -grayscale -depthgray 4 -h x0.25 -cc 16 -gsf s -dither sierralite .\cover.jpg .\cover_sierralite.jpg
del cover.jpg
ren cover_sierralite.jpg cover.jpg
Edit: I've attached a sample of the original cover, the full size grayscale cover and the shrunken grayscale cover for one ebook. The ebook went from 1063KiB to 391KiB when the shrunken cover was used.
