I don't carry a full size purse when shopping, I use a wristlet. They are large enough for my iPhone 7+ and a small card wallet. I can't put a purse on my shoulder for any length of time anymore.

I also have smaller crossbody purses for those times I need to carry more, but they are still on the small side. I don't carry a full size wallet anymore either. Apple Pay is set up on my watch, and I have the credit card for those places that don't take AP or that can't accept it from the watch. Love the Apple Watch and no longer fumbling with my purse/wallet/cards.

I read if necessary on my phone, unless I expect a long wait, then I grab my Paperwhite on the way out the door. Seems like those times now usually mean someone is with me, so I won't read. 4 hours in the ER with my 89 year old mom etc.

But, but...books are displayed so beautifully on large screen devices! Firstly, there is the bookshelf where breathe in the covers if what to read nex requires some consideration. And then the way the pages are displayed when the tablet is held horizontally with columns and pages. Lastly the weight of a tablet is nothing compared to carrying multiple books. Especially when “weighed” against the benefits of a pencil for non fiction and other features available from the same device.

And I bet you carry things for her with that bag and would even let her borrow the tablet if you aren’t using it.

Sounds like a win all around.

I don't carry it in a bag. I carry it in my hand just like I used to carry hard bound books.
I do carry things for my wife though. She has psoriatic arthritis and osteoarthritis which makes it difficult for he r to carry heavy items. She used to like to carry large purses. now she uses just a wallet with a wrist strap.

Pre-Covid I usually carried one of my ereaders in my handbag. I don't any more because it's just one more thing I'd have to sanitize. I use my ereaders at home after I've washed my hands. I can use my phone for reading for short periods when I'm out and about.

It seems like the longer life goes on, the more stuff I have to carry. When I was young, it was mostly just my wallet, pen & pencil, a few OTC meds, an umbrella on days when rain was in the forecast. In the early 2000's I added a cell phone. Around 2012 I added an ereader. Next to be added as I got older was computer glasses. Now I have to carry a mask and hand sanitizer. And because of the hand sanitizer and/or frequent hand washing, I have to carry hand lotion. My handbags have gotten bigger and bigger.

Hmm with me it's the other way around. I used to haul a big bag around when I was young. Nowadays it's just a tiny handbag with my bank cards, phone, a comb and a pack of tissues. I'm not in the risk group for Covid, so don't use masks or sanitizers (very few people use them here, mostly elderly and/or people with major health problems. While I do have slightly elevated blood pressure, it's not serious and is under control with medication). I have very bad eyesight, so I wear my glasses constantly and don't have to carry them in my bag.

Pretty much the same here. I don't go crazy with sanitizers, I wash my hands well when I get home from for the store, and that's it. We do have to wear a mask when in a store as it's a state "mandate" etc, and I do keep a small bottle of sanitizer in the car to use right after I leave the store.

Masks are required to enter businesses here and there's enough Covid in my area that I figure better safe than sorry with the hand washing and/or sanitizer.

I wear my regular glasses (trifocals) for driving, shopping, etc but since I use a computer at work I have separate glasses for that. They are much more comfortable than trying to look at the screen through the small part of my trifocals that is for intermediate distance. Definitely worth the investment.

We have sanitizers at the doors of the stores. I confess I haven't used them recently, but I did in the spring when Covid was at its peak here. As I don't have a car and use public transport, often several times a day, there's no point to carry a sanitizer with me. My hands would never survive if I had to sanitize them 10 times a day. I wash them when I get home and that's it. Of course I might revise those habits if some serious epidemics broke out here. Luckily so far we've not had all that many cases. Our population density is low compared to many other countries.

The stores I go to regularly are doing a good job of wiping down the carts as they bring them back into the store. They have wipes and paper towels with antibacterial spray there for you to use as well.

I'm saving a ton of money by being in the stores less. No more running in for just one or two things.

I'm not saving any, because I order most of our stuff online . But sometimes I still need a physical store, like buying fresh apples (I've always been crazy about apples and want to select them myself), trying on new footwear and things like that.

I do not want other people picking my fresh groceries for me. Pantry items fine, but I prefer to pick my own meat, fruit and Dairy Products. I shop early in the mornings when the stores first open. There are fewer people and I know what I want. I can be in and out in just a few minutes. My wife has serious health issues and stays home except for doctor visits.

I'm fine with other people picking my stuff, as long as they do it reasonably well, and meat and dairy products are pre-packaged anyway here. The fresh fruit and vegetables I've ordered have generally been fine. The only exceptions are apples, clothing and footwear, which I always pick myself.

The county I live in started school yesterday. Out of 14 schools all had cases of Covid-19.
11 employees tested positive, 9 tested negative, 41 are waiting for tests results to come back and 54 are quarantined. All of the schools also had students with Covid-19 although the county has not posted totals yet. I say yet because one of our nursing homes has been saying they had no cases of Covid-19. That was because they were not reporting them. We have just learned that one third of all deaths, from Covid-19, in our county are from this nursing home.

I also want to pick my own produce and meat/poultry items. Sometimes that trip to the store is the only trip out of the house for the week.

We have 112 active cases in the whole country at the moment. The nursing homes are quarantined again, as of this week. School starts on September 1st here.
