Question about backing up books and annotations

Hi.
Today my Aura H2O2 got screwed up. The only option is to factory reset. Is there any way to back up all my books?
Thanks in advance.

If you can plug in the Kobo to the computer and it shows up as a drive, you can copy the contents. If the database is the problem, you may not be able to save your annotations.

What is the problem that needs a factory reset?

That depends on what "got screwed up" means. And what skills you have

If the device is actually running and can connect to a PC, you can backup files from the device. That includes the database that contains the annotations. You will need to able to extract the annotations from this and restore them later. But, I can't think of any circumstance where the only option was a factory reset and the database would be in a condition where it would be possible to extract the annotations.

For the books, you really shouldn't need to back them up. If they were purchased from Kobo and downloaded to the device, they will download when you do the setup. For sideloaded books, don't you have a copy of them elsewhere?

If the device doesn't start, you are stuck. The Aura H2O Edition 2 do not have removable internal storage. That means there is no internal card to take out and access by other methods.

Long story short, I tried enabling landscape on it, then somehow all the icons in /mnt/onboard managed to get into my library. Apparently the folders were no longer hidden... I deleted them (big mistake) and... Well, KOreader, Plato, and pbchess crashed.

By editing the config file? If so, did you make sure you were using an editor that respected Unix line ends? That is usually the problem when thing like this happen.

So, the nickel is working, but the hack/addons don't? In that cases, reinstalling them would probably fix them. You might want to do a cleanup first, but, I don't know.

I used CompuClever Ultra File Opener. And I doubt reinstalling would help. Like I said, the folders weren't hidden anymore.

Why not? You would need to fix the config file entry for excluding directories from the scanning by nickel, but one you do that, there should be no reason that they cannot be reinstalled.
