My wife's new laptop will have an SD Card slot, a single 3.5 mm audio input/output jack and four Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports. That's it. Everything goes through those glorified USB-C ports — the power supply can be attached to any one of them and, I think, they all can be used for video output. Nowhere to plug in her Logitech wireless mice or her USB thumb drives. Makes for a sleek laptop (Dell XPS)... up until the time you start attaching multiple adapters to use it with various peripherals. It comes with two adapters, one USB-C to USB adapter and one USB-C to HDMI adapter, but others can be attached. We ordered a Bluetooth mouse, so already making adjustments to accommodate the change.

Maybe it's my eyesight, but this is really not noticeable in use. The colours are washed out compared to say a retina display, but then it's not shining light into my eyes...

Alright, here's my review. Be kind lol, I'm not a professional. @koboy, there is some footage of 12, or 13 point font epub in it.
https://youtu.be/uhqO6n_Avwo BTW at the end there is some stuff about setting covers when off, and some homescreen stuff! |

on colours: as the tech we are discussing here is called e-ink or paper...
I wouldn't even expect an intensity of colours which only displays can offer, because they emit the colours as an active lightsource and that's why I think that any comparison with tablets, iCrap or whatever is out of technical limits. For me the main idea behind this tech was and is imitation of paper insofar that it doesn't consume additional power when not needed (page redraw) and doesn't interfere with external lights just like the classical book page. OTOH If one could improve the quality of colours or achieve readability in darkness by utilizing a chemical process (use the charge needed for building the new page to make the pixels emit light like chemical lightsticks... on the USB connection... as those devices are usually NOT in need to transfer hundreds of gigabytes or more of data I perfectly do understand them not being equipped with connectors and controllers to do it. As for the host devices not being able to serve them... well that literally is a problem on the other side and not the readers tech to be blamed for. |

Has anyone else ordered from Sotel? I'm very tempted to order the Pocketbook Color from them (maybe through their Amazon shop would be better?) but reviews on their customer service if things go wrong are quite poor.
Alza.co.uk don't have great reviews either. |

Especially: only room lights, no front light and not video. Decent stills with a PW3, PW4, Aura, H2O, OR Libra etc also with light off so as to compare ordinary reading.

No problems, arrived here in the UK by UPS exactly a week after ordering. VAT invoice, tracking data sent on dispatch, courteous e-mail confirmations. I'd buy from them again given that experience. Indeed I intend to give positive feedback on Facebook to this effect. I was originally going to buy through Amazon, but I figured out I could purchase from the same seller direct for less... I was also somewhat apprehensive given some posts on Facebook, but luckily no complications... Last edited by Crowriver; 08-08-2020 at 10:15 PM. |
