Hot and humid today, but not as sunny. We had some thunderstorms last night, moving in from the west, and we just had a drenching downpour with strong winds that might have been an outer band from Isaias. The main storm, whatever's left of it, should run directly through our state tomorrow.

Safely through the storm. Apparently Isaias' strongest winds stayed high up - we got very little wind or rain in central NC. Whew!
Gorgeous out this morning - 69 F. Guess I'll put the deck furniture back out this morning. |

It dropped enough water to flood us into our neighborhood for a few hours, but the creek is back down in its banks this morning. Will still be keeping an eye out for flooding on Thursday and Friday.

An average summer's day. Sunny, 21C, with a nice breeze. From tomorrow temperature are rising and will be above 25C for a week to a week and a half.

We had Isaias Tuesday from about 11:30 in the morning until 3 in the afternoon. It did some damage in NY, but nothing around where I am (Hell's Kitchen, a/k/a Clinton in Manhattan). Our building is in the middle of a downhill (or uphill depending on which direction you are going in). I have not been out, so I haven't seen any of the effects. Heard that a few people died. One man in his car in Queens that was hit by a very thick tree at 1pm.

My Dad, three brothers, two sisters and myself all live in a line from the border of Pennsylvania and Delaware, through New Jersey, and into mid state New York -- pretty much the track that Isaias took. Everyone lost power except for me -- most of our town went out, but the tree limbs in our neighborhood all apparently fell parallel to the power lines.
As of right now, Dad and two of my brothers have their power back. Yesterday, after the storm, it was beautiful. The backside of the storm pulled in blue skies and cool air from the northwest. The temperatures were in the 70s (F) and there was a wonderful breeze. Today we were back to hot and hazy. |

Dull, cloudy but surprisingly warm here. Been like this most of this week apart from one half day of brilliant sunshine.

It's warm, still 30C at 8pm. Tomorrow and Saturday will be even worse, 34C. We've had hot periods during the last two summer and I was miserable then. I've decided there's no point if feeling miserable and I'm just trying to go with the flow. Take it easy, have a fan nearby and make the best of it.
In the past a hot day would mean thunderstorms during the night. But none are predicted until at least Wednesday. I'm lucky I'm house sitting, this house cools down more easily than my own home. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that by the time I'm going back home temperatures have dropped (each weather service predicts something different). |

It's still hot, today and tomorrow up to 35C, on Wednesday and Thursday 32C. But some time on Thursday the weather's going to change and with the thunderstorms the temperature will drop. How much the temperature will drop we'll have to see. Each weather service has a different prediction. It depends on the wind direction apparently. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it is going to cool down from Thursday, because I'm already really fed up with these temperatures, not being able to do much because it's too hot.

Here in New York City we had a break from excessive heat for almost a week, but the heat and excess humidity were back on Monday. The weather change kept me awake this morning (when I go to sleep) even though I was not feeling too warm. I don't like to sleep with the AC on and turn it off just before bedtime. Heat advisory is until Wednesday evening.

We had torrential downpours from about 6pm to 10pm last night. Our creek did not flood over, but if we get much more rain today, it will. Did see that an old poplar on the edge of the creek lost a pretty big branch, though I didn't hear much wind.
While our forecast is the same, I am really noticing the changing of the light. I get up at 5:00 am every morning and the sunset is steadily creeping later and later. It doesn't feel like Fall yet, but its on its way. |

Today is the last day of eight days of tropical (over 30C degrees) temperatures. Normally I would say that 26-27C degrees is too warm, but I'm really looking forward to those temperatures the next couple of days.
During the night it was a couple of degrees cooler than predicted and there was a nice breeze blowing into the bedroom window, so I was able to sleep relatively well. In the those eight days I've only had one night I didn't sleep well due to the heat. That was because I had to close the windows because it was going to rain during the night. Next week temperatures will drop to around 22C degrees, which is normal for this time of year. It looks like the night will stay warm, just below 20C degrees, for a while longer before dropping. For later today thunderstorms were predicted, but it looks like the chance of that happening is lower. Though looking at the rain radar some showers are now developing in the south of the country. |
