Hey, if the goal is to hang with Xena, you're right. :-) I just...IDK, I watched the first few opening minutes and it's that endlessly tired "Oh, we need you back to do this or that, even though you eschew it now" because the character was SO GREAT...it's just exhausting because it's trite. It's TV shorthand for telling not showing and for crying out loud, they should be better at it now, after 70 damn years of nearly full-time storytelling.
If there's someone here who really likes it, I apologize; this is all personal taste. It's like all this other now-TV-trope stuff; when was the LAST time that you saw a Brit detective show wehre every single person in charge was NOT a woman? The detective is a woman. The detective's immediat bos is a woman, and her boss is a woman...the CSIs are women, the coroner is a woman..it's like the entire island has moved to DC's Paradise Island. I mean, I get it, they're trying to be hip and all that, but COME ON... Hitch |

I've been wanting to grow my hair out for ages -- my parents wouldn't allow it when I was younger, then my wife wouldn't go for it. This has been a good opportunity for me to try, and it hasn't been cut since early December! I might just make it!
Funny thing is, whenever my wife says a guy looks good, it's always a long-haired guy, so I think she'll be OK with it if I can actually make the transition past the awkward in-between period! haha |

I'm not saying that they lack talented actors; I'm simply saying that the pendulum has swung so far to the other side that now it's totally unrealistic. I mean, it's not like stuffing TV crime procedural shows full of actresses, rather than men in the roles, will somehow magically change the reality of management, etc., at the cop shops and it ruins the shows for me. Shrug. And they don't all have to be serious; I like some lightweight cozies, too; but I prefer them to each..I dunno, occupy their own space. Hell, I like the new (for those of us who remember the original) Fr. Brown, and it's hard for ANY mystery to get lighter than that! Any lighter and you'd have to tie the plots to the ground with cast iron weights... Hitch |

I'm going over to my friends' house tonight to discuss pet care during my house sitting. They had booked their usual vacation in Spain before the pandemic. Luckily, they were able to change that reservation to next year, but they still wanted to get away this summer. They booked two weeks at a campsite in Belgium. However, in Belgium Corona cases are rising and mask regulations have become stricter. Their trip is still two weeks away, I had planned to order my groceries for delivery next week, but I'm probably going to delay that by a couple of days, just in case.
This year I'm not just taking care of dog Keira, but also their new kitten Pien. Last year Keira was diagnosed with an allergy, and she had to get special diet dry food. She wasn't allowed to eat anything else. The vet wanted to try out regular food at some point in the future, I don't know if that has happened or Keira is still on a strict diet. I'll also have to ask about Pien's care. |

Next Monday I'm going to house sit for two weeks. Normally I would go to the supermarket on the day of arrival and get most of my groceries for the next couple of days. On weekdays I work I would go to the supermarket after working in the working in the morning and get fresh bread rolls and anything else I need. On Friday I would get the groceries for the weekend.
This year I want to avoid the supermarket as much as possible. I thought about getting my groceries delivered on Monday, but my friends are going to Belgium and Corona cases are rising and the Belgian government is might announce more measures this coming week. There is a chance my friends won't go. So I've just ordered my groceries for pick up from a drive through location next Monday. If my friends aren't going I can still cancel most of my shopping until noon on Saturday and just pick up things for the €25 minimum. |

I'm closing cases and reviewing my junior attorneys' work. Part of being a public interest attorney is being in compliance with all of the requirements of our various grants. Part of my job is to ensure that all the attorneys I supervise are doing their paperwork in conformity with all that compliance. So, in short, I am doing the paperwork end of being an attorney today.

So was I. I had long hair when long hair on men was a political statement, not a fashion matter. Women I encountered back when said "I love your hair! What do you do to it?" "Nothing. I wash it regularly, brush it daily, and carefully avoid dyes and permanents." (My hair has always been thick, wavy, and fast growing. I am not going to go bald.)
When I finally got the hair cut, for Real Life reasons, I saved about a foot of it in a pony tail, tying off one end with a rubber band. I would appear at social events, and various women I knew said "Dennis! You cut your hair! Now I can't play with it!" I pulled the saved pony tail out of my pocket and said "Sure you can! I don't even have to be here while you do!" ![]() The biggest annoyance for me during lockdown was not being able to get my hair cut. When my barber reopened, I walked in annd said "Crag out the hedge clippers and prune it back.," The saving grace was not having to go anywhere where my unshorn state would be an issue. ______ Dennis |

The biggest issue she had to deal with was Compliance, and what might be said and how to say it that would conform to the constantly changing nature of the applicable financial regulations. She spent a fair bit of time explaining to various, and in some cases very senior, people that what they wanted wasn't in compliance, would bite the firm in the butt if done as desired, so no, she couldn't do it as desired, sorry. She referred to the staffers charged with enforcing compliance as Nazguls. She also spent a fair bit of time mentoring junior employees, and talked about one who decided he wanted to be a Nazgul. She was sympathetic. Compliance officer was an absolutely necessary job, and somebody had to do it, so she gave him the best advice she could about how to pursue that path within the firm. ______ Dennis |

In another life I did actual FDA compliance work. This is NOTHING like that. This is just making sure we gave the right legal service to the right people and we documented it in the right way to get paid. Our entire client base is below the poverty line and do not pay for our services. We are fully grant funded. So I am just making sure we did our jobs. Actual compliance was hell. This is more mentoring and helping young attorneys. |
