I wonder if he will keep the characters as they are in the books, or as they are in the movie. I thought the movie was ok, but thought the book was great.

The characters in the movie were the same, the only difference is that they meet in person a lot sooner in the movie. Unless you are talking about their looks? Also the movie concentrated more on movies than on computer games as in the book.

I agree with the movie being okay, I wish it would have been closer to the book though.

For you it wasn't an accident, for me it was since I stumbled upon it while I was looking for something else. Other than the email, did you have any advance warning that the book was even in the works? Obviously if you get the preorder notice, the book is basically already done, maybe needs some minor editing.

I had no advanced notice other then the email. But if I had gone to Cline's Fantastic Fiction page, I may have had some notice.

My understanding is that many publishers will schedule a book a year after they have been turned in. My guess is that it was turned in some time ago and likely the whole edit process is done as well. I got a pre-order email on Patrica Briggs next book a couple of weeks ago and that comes out next March.


This probably isn't the thread to go into too much speculation, etc. since it's the Jim Butcher thread. Ready, Player Two is listed for $15 on the Kindle and is listed as 384 pages, so it's most certain that all the editing and everything is done. It's also available for pre-order in audio book, but no narrator is listed yet. Ready, Player One was narrated by Wil Wheaton.

I already had missed it before you posted the second post. The first post already had the video of the already previous event to watch. Your second post is just the same video as its own post.

The closer he gets towards the end, the more evasive he is becoming. The amount of remaining books even. Since it was planned as 20 books and then an epic three book finale, he only said at least 21 books. That is not really a surprise, since Peace Talks and Battle Ground was supposed to be one book which he said his editor made him split into two.

Around the time of the release of Changes (or most likely soon after) he indicated during some interviews that there might be 21 or 22 novels before the trilogy.

21 makes sense given that Peace Talks and Battle Ground were supposed to be one book.
