Long story short, I had done the electrical tape light bleed fix on my Clara, then went in today to remove it everywhere but the bottom left corner, and this happened? I'm not sure if I cut it while trimming the tape initially, but this crinkly thing that goes from the back to connect to the screen on the right is definitely, and completely, ripped on my device now
![]() ![]() I didn't think anything of it initially because it was like that underneath the tape, and it had been working. Then, when I put the device back together, touch no longer registered. I'm not really techy, I can just do things if I have a tutorial or instructions, so granted I'm only guessing those two instances are related and this is the issue? I did try to tape it together as best I could with electrical tape and touch still wasn't registering. Failed tape attempt: ![]() Is this fixable? Maybe just keep trying to get it right with the electrical tape? Can I maybe replace the part (I scanned the QR code but nothing came up when googled). Or if it's not this part that's the issue, what should I be troubleshooting? Feeling really dumb right now, mobileread forums, but I figured if anyone would know what to do, it'd be you folks. Sorry for the dumb questions, and that's what I get for opening up my device again and messing around without actually needing to, I guess. (Also mods, I posted in here because this falls under hardware changes to me, but if this is in the wrong forum I can move the post). Thank you for your help!! |

What you'd need is a new digitizer but since it's one unit with the display, basically means replacing the display as a whole. Alternatively you'd have to make do without touch and find some software hack instead to receive touch input from external source. But the only way for you to even install those is to modify the sd card directly since you won't be able to connect USB without tapping the connection confirmation dialog. That's if you haven't already got an access path for telnet/ftp/modding. I'd unplug the broken cable entirely just in case of any short-circuitry going on in that damaged portion. |

It may be time for a new Reader. I suggest the Libra.

![]() I did love the Clara's size (perfect for purses) and the ability to upgrade the SD card, but I will look into the Libra too (are they still having screen gradient complaints? I haven't looked in a while). I only got my Clara in May! Having this Clara for backup battery may be worth it down the road too. I am just very thankful I have my Glo HD still working with the sd card upgrade right now. |
