More specifically, perhaps. The statement "Kobo Plus has come to North America" is not inaccurate, even if its lack of specificity makes it unhelpful and potentially misleading to some.

And again... the first sentence of the initial post makes that perfectly clear. So where's the inaccuracy/confusion/deception? Surely people don't stop at the thread-title.

Given the OP's first sentences were:

Well, Canada, anyway...
It was previously only available in Belgium and the Netherlands.
Maybe the US will be next?
So only unhelpful and misleading to those who either didn't bother reading the first message in the thread or are simply hard of thinking.

What? A forum dedicated to people who read books and you dare think people actually read?

Utter madness!

I'm not disagreeing with you. My post was in response to the person who said "more accurately" when there was nothing inaccurate about the original statement.

Let’s drop the endless back and forth about North America and get on topic, please. You can take it to the Lounge if you’d like, if there’s really any interest in continuing it.

Here there isn't Kobo Plus but I am not interested, just like I am not interested in Kindle Unlimited: You spend € 9.99 each month and the books will not be Yours.

I like more Kobo VIP (although I don't feel a VIP ) that doubles Kobo super points. I buy many books so it is convenient for me and it costs only € 6.00 each Year.

Thanks.

The service's significance as Kobo tries to engage Kindle on all its markets, including its Indie stronghold, should be bit more important than how fast it deploys in its new territory.

After all, KOBO Plus *doesn't* require exclusivity.
(It can't, if it is to get any traction.)

The combination of ebookstore and rental service gives it a leg up over the rest of the "we're not Kindle!" crowd trying to appeal to publishers " going wide". As KU provides a *lot* of revenue to smaller publishers having an alternative other than exclusivity to maximize revenue from the epub-ish side of the market.

The trick is getting enough small and Indie publishers to sign up to undercut KU. Canada is Kobo's stronghold so ramping up there makes sense since going "wide" (or at least Kobo+Kindle) signficantly feeds the bottom line there.

Worth keeping in mind is Kobo allowing Direct2Digital to sign up publishers and D2D's primary business is in the US. They wouldn't be bothering with that if they weren't planning to move south once they build a respectably large catalog.

Like NIA it'll show up...soon enough.

The problem for Kobo is that Kindle Unlimited does require exclusivity.
So they've got to convince authors/publishers to go with a KU-like program, but one that isn't actually KU. That seems like a hard sell.

How does it compare to KU for authors and readers? It will have to be generous to draw market away from Amazon.
