Yep... which is why I said it was a wish because I know it's not technically possible, at least not without a lot of work.

It will be the same as any other firmware version: Probably. Unless there is a change in the kernal that is needed, it will probably run. But, unless you are in Canada and want to try Kobo Plus, there is probably no point.

And as with all of these things, why don't you try and tell us.

When you installed it, did you install everything or just KoboRoot.tgz?

Yes, but don't do it. There's no need at all to be paranoid.

You want to login properly with an account at Kobo. That way if you want, you can buy eBooks from Kobo and use Overdrive on your Glo HD. And in the past, the loging cheat stopped working when the firmware changed something in the database. Anyone with the login cheat lost everything. So don't do it. Just create an account at Kobo and do a proper registration. I've had my Aura H2O register for 5 years 8 months and I've never had a problem.

I wasn't sure. Thank you. So sometime next week I'll install the first 4.22 and then the new 4.22 and then the patches.

Just to check, why?

Is it that you don't want to register with Kobo? If so, see @PeterT's link or one of the many other similar discussions. But, my opinion is closer to @JSWolf's, that it isn't worth it, but, unlike him, I am completely happy for you to do it the way you want to.

If the problem is that the you are getting WiFi connection errors during the setup, that is an easy fix. The issue is that Kobo had to remove older security protocols from their servers. This was because they are no longer considered to be secure. Unfortunately, this means that older devices cannot connect to the server after a full factory reset. You can do the setup using Kobo desktop application. This still supports the newer devices. Alternatively, if you manually update the firmware to 3.19.x or later, the setup over WiFi can be done successfully.

Also, your post really doesn't belong in this thread. It is completely unrelated to this thread. You will get better attention starting a thread for your question, or finding a thread discussing the same problem.

I’m in Canada. I didn’t install the update. But after a synch over wifi, I saw the Kobo Plus in the list. I did not try it.

I have a Kobo Libra.

I suspect it’s there for everyone but it’s locked behind at least one or more conditions

1) your IP being in Canada
2) your country being set to Canada

Or of course Norway/Belgium in the place of Canada.

I’d bet on IP being a factor or we’d probably have had some reports. Of course I, or anyone not in one of these countries could verify this by setting our country to one of them and seeing if it shows up. Likewise anyone in one of these countries could change their country and see if it goes away.

I wondered if that would be the case. Kobo Plus support has been in the firmware for a while. It's probably like the Overdrive, Kobo enables it based on where you are and your account. As @MGlitch said.

I'm preparing a Kobo Glo HD for a friend. Don't wanna have to reset it when I give it to her. I want KOReader to be present, with some customisation

When giving an ereader to someone else, you have to assume you become defacto tech support. What's the benefit of adding KOReader? I'd think it's adding a layer of complexity, but I say that never having used KOReader.

I gave my 6" Aura to my uncle. In that case, I just updated to (at the time) the most recent firmware and added a few patches. (I also live in Texas, while he lives in Washington, so I mostly escaped the tech support roll.)
