Not for LC Genre. See the attached images for their ToolTips and their correct types.

LCGenre has a 1:1 mapping of book:LCGenre, unlike normal Tags and Tag-Like columns which have a 1:many relationship.


You need to change your #genre to #lcgenre and let LC automatically create it. Your #genre, being Tag-Like, is not for use in Library Codes.


Added: Worldcat has changed their site, so I have a lot of work to do to get back to where LC was before the changes. Don't hold your breath. In the meantime, if you want what you are not getting, you will have to add it manually.

Clearly you are not using LC properly. I suspect that you just click the toolbar icon button, and then complain that you have problems. The real problem is that you are not using the LC Menu.

When I personally use the LC Menu for the Expanse book that you have been testing, I get almost everything in LC. Worldcat is still broken, so I don't get OCLC (the other one, not OCLC-OWI), but that is highly optional anyway.

See the attached image. Read the tool-tips. Use the menu. All of it.

I'm not making an accusation nor an indictment. I've been using your plugin for years, exactly the same way as I always have, without issue, until recently.

I've done all the things you suggest, and I'm clearly having a different experience. I appreciate the help and effort you put in to troubleshooting this with me and helping me understand how best to use your plugin.

That said, when I first installed it however many versions ago, I followed the directions exactly, and had the plugin create the columns automatically, etc. For there to be issues with how the columns were configured has nothing to do with me, as I didn't create them from the outset.

I understand that there may be an element of user error, but I don't just click on the LC button, I go through all the options, and sometimes it works right away, and sometimes it doesn't. It doesn't make sense that until recently, LC was working exactly as you intended it to (and exactly what I loved about it), and that I somehow did something to break it.

If I did anything differently, then at least I'd have what to examine to retrace my steps, but beyond using the plugin as I always have, I'm not sure why I'm being reprimanded for not using LC properly.

Thank you again for all your help. I'll take the hint, and I'll stop bothering you about this plugin, if I have any other issues.

Your #fast custom column was not a tag-like column, so there is no way that it ever worked previously.

Your LC Genre was configured to use #genre, not #lc_genre. That would never work, meaning you never ran the LC Genre function from the LC submenu.

You manually created the #genre custom column, because LC does not automatically create the column used for LC Genre. Never has. The "auto-create" pushbutton is above the configuration area for LC Genre for a reason.

What you always used to do quit working for you because Worldcat changed their site, so webscraping that used to work now fails. So, just clicking the toolbar icon button to get everything no longer worked. I don't accept using the "I always did it this way so I did nothing new" perspective as valid.

I found an unusual interaction between this plugin and the Favourites Menu plugin:



Other plugins (including both Job Spy and MCS) do have their submenus appear correctly, so I'm not sure why Library Codes doesn't. Thankfully I can rename the entries but they're a little bit hard to tell apart when adding them in the first place and it seemed weird enough to report as possible bug.



EDIT: Ok more odd behaviour: I added "Convert ISBN-10..." to the Favourites menu and renamed it. Its icon vanished from the menu and it doesn't actually activate. It's not a big issue because I can use it from the LC menu anyways but it's still strange considering the JS entries work.

Qt blank menu lines show up that way for all plugins that use Qt blank menu lines.

All GUI plugins use the identical Favourites-plugin compatibility code originally written by kiwidude when he wrote the Favourites plugin years ago.

Version 1.0.45 - 2020-07-17 Major webscraping rewrites due to Worldcat site changes. Configuration Dialog greatly enhanced for both validation of user settings and ToolTips. Minimum Calibre Version remains 4.6. BeautifulSoup 3 support removed.

Tested in Calibre 5 Beta 4.99.7 and required no changes.

When I get metadata for LC Extra Authors it seems to also download FAST Tags into both the FAST Tag column AND the LC Extra Author column. I don't remember that happening when I first downloaded the plugin. Did I enable that in the options somewhere?
