But 25 of them are short stories. These are all the Agatha Christie stories that are in the public domain in the USA.

The Black Dahlia by James Ellroy is $1.99 at Amazon US.

Quote:
The highly acclaimed novel based on America's most infamous unsolved murder case. Dive into 1940s Los Angeles as two cops spiral out of control in their hunt for The Black Dahlia's killer in this powerful thriller that is "brutal and at the same time believable" (New York Times).
On January 15, 1947, the torture-ravished body of a beautiful young woman is found in a Los Angeles vacant lot. The victim makes headlines as the Black Dahlia -- and so begins the greatest manhunt in California history. Caught up in the investigation are Bucky Bleichert and Lee Blanchard: Warrants Squad cops, friends, and rivals in love with the same woman. But both are obsessed with the Dahlia -- driven by dark needs to know everything about her past, to capture her killer, to possess the woman even in death. Their quest will take them on a hellish journey through the underbelly of postwar Hollywood, to the core of the dead girl's twisted life, past the extremes of their own psyches -- into a region of total madness.

Motherless Brooklyn by Jonathan Lethem is $1.99. National Book Critic Award Winner.

https://smile.amazon.com/Motherless-...4600684&sr=8-2

Quote:
Lionel Essrog is Brooklyn’s very own self-appointed Human Freakshow, an orphan whose Tourettic impulses drive him to bark, count, and rip apart our language in the most startling and original ways. Together with three veterans of the St. Vincent’s Home for Boys, he works for small-time mobster Frank Minna’s limo service cum detective agency. Life without Frank Minna, the charismatic King of Brooklyn, would be unimaginable, so who cares if the tasks he sets them are, well, not exactly legal. But when Frank is fatally stabbed, one of Lionel’s colleagues lands in jail, the other two vie for his position, and the victim’s widow skips town. Lionel’s world is suddenly topsy-turvy, and this outcast who has trouble even conversing attempts to untangle the threads of the case while trying to keep the words straight in his head. Motherless Brooklyn is a brilliantly original homage to the classic detective novel by one of the most acclaimed writers of his generation. (less)

Many Rivers to Cross is the most recent (2019) for now in the Inspector Banks series by Peter Robinson, although there is a new one coming in March, 2021. It has dropped to $2.99 at Kindle US as part of the "Load up your summer reading list this week on Kindle" sale, supposed to be good through 7/19, although I wouldn't push it really if you want it. This is a pretty good price for a most-recent-in-series. It's matched at Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07S6NM8DT
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/many-rivers-to-cross-9

Spoiler:
Quote:
Peter Robinson, the acclaimed author of the bestselling series Stephen King calls “the best now on the market,” returns with a gripping, emotionally charged mystery in which the revered detective Alan Banks must find the truth about a murder with possible racial overtones—and save a friend from ruin.

In Eastvale, a young Middle Eastern boy is found dead, his body stuffed into a wheelie bin on the East Side Estate. Detective Superintendent Alan Banks and his team know they must tread carefully to solve this sensitive case, but tensions rise when they learn that the victim was stabbed somewhere else and dumped. Who is the boy, and where did he come from?

Then, in a decayed area of Eastvale scheduled for redevelopment, a heroin addict is found dead. Was this just another tragic overdose, or something darker?

To prevent tensions from reaching a boiling point, Banks must find answers quickly. Yet just when he needs to be at his sharpest, the seasoned detective finds himself distracted by a close friend’s increasingly precarious situation. Banks needs a break—and gets one when he finds a connection to a real estate developer who could be the key to finding the truth.

With so many loose ends dangling, there is one thing Banks is sure of—solving the case will come at a terrible cost.

Well, so much for my theory that the first seven titles are all she got the rights back to...

Here is an omnibus of titles 8-13 that has dropped to free at Kindle US and UK. The titles are listed in the blurb.

The Dead-End Job Mysteries: Volume 8-13, by Elaine Viets
Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B087TH216B
Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B087TH216B

Spoiler:
Quote:
JOIN HELEN HAWTHORNE FOR SIX MORE MYSTERIES IN THIS DEAD-END JOB BOXED SET…

KILLER CUTS
Even though Helen Hawthorne is just a gofer at his upscale hair salon, she has to admit the fabulous Miguel Angel is a master at the craft of coif. But with great heads of hair come great headaches. Especially when Miguel and Helen prepare the pregnant fiancée of Kingman “King” Oden for her nuptials. When King tries to throw his weight around the shop, Miguel delivers a vicious dressing down—along with a killer threat. Which is why Miguel is named the prime suspect when King’s body is found drowned in a pool at his own wedding. Helen knows her boss might have a temper, but murder? That’s just not his style.

HALF-PRICE HOMICIDE
When Fort Lauderdale’s wealthiest want to discreetly trade their best barely-worn threads for cash, they bring it to Snapdragon’s Second Thoughts—which is where Helen finds herself selling the most chic secondhand clothing in Florida. But usual haggling turns homicidal when a particularly petty customer turns up dead and Helen’s boss Vera is eyed as a suspect. And while she would like to help, a sudden tragedy forces Helen to return to St. Louis—where she has the chance to face her past. If Helen doesn’t quickly deal with her fugitive status she won’t make it back home in time to prevent the police from making a very unfashionable arrest…

PUMPED FOR MURDER
Newly married, Helen can’t wait to life anew—and start an agency with her PI hubby, Phil. Her penchant for working dead-end jobs comes in handy when they’re hired to look into a fitness fanatic who may be cheating on his wife. Taking a receptionist job at their subject’s gym, Helen soon discovers that she has to start pumping iron if she wants to keep an eye on the weight-lifting lothario. With her past finally behind her, Helen is all set to start sleuthing for real. But if she wants to make a living of it, she’s going to have to do some heavy lifting…

FINAL SAIL
As one half of Coronado Investigations, Helen is working full time alongside Phil. And after the surprising number of murders Helen helped solve while earning low pay on off the books jobs, anything else should be smooth sailing, right? Unfortunately, Helen’s unique work history also makes her a natural for undercover work—and in this case that means acting as a “yacht stewardess” to catch some smugglers. But after a member of the yacht crew disappears, Helen’s case quickly goes from simple smuggling to maritime murder. And if she doesn’t find out who pitched the man overboard, she might end up lost at sea herself…

BOARD STIFF
Helen and Phil are on the case when Jim Sandusky asks them to save his business. Because while “Sunny Jim’s Stand-Up Paddleboard Rental” is garnering a lot of attention, it’s not the kind the beachside business ever hoped to attract. There’s a local restaurateur who wants the land for a parking lot, a competing board rental place aiming to poach customers, and a gang of local politicos who just want Jim gone. And Jim wants Helen and Phil to find proof of dirty dealings. They don’t have to try hard, as it’s not long before a customer of Jim’s turns up dead—a murder Jim insists was set up to make him look bad. It’s up to Helen and Phil to prove it before Sunny Jim’s is sunk for good.

CATNAPPED!
If there’s one thing the very wealthy might value than their money, it’s their precious pets. So when a local socialite hires Helen and Phil to recover her beloved show cat from her ex-husband Mortimer, the case seems simple enough. But when the husband-and-wife PI team show up for the cat, they’re greeted by a murdered Mortimer. And the feline is nowhere to be found. To get the scoop on who could have committed the deed, Helen takes a job as a cat groomer. But as she navigates the cutthroat world of cat shows she discovers there is much more to the crime than just a purloined pussycat…

I read several of these books back in DTB days, and enjoyed them, so I've been happy to pick them up one-by-one, but now here are a bunch of them all at once for free. Just guessing, but these are probably all the ones that she has been able to get the rights back for.

Two titles in the Father Anselm series by William Brodrick have dropped to $2.99 at Kindle and Kobo US (VIP/couponable). One of them, A Whispered Name, was, per SYKM, a Gold Dagger winner.

A Whispered Name, #3
Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MXFJ1VS
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/a-whispered-name-1

The Silent Ones, #6
Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MXCX2N7
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the-silent-ones-7

Also, I note that the first title in the series, The Sixth Lamentation, doesn't seem to be available in the US as an ebook, but is available and only £0.99 in the UK. So if you like to read in order, and you live or can travel to the UK, here you go...

There's a couple of Sherlock Holmes-related freebies from Lume Books at the moment.

The Return of Moriarty - John Gardner
amazon.co.uk | amazon.com | amazon.ca

Quote:
The London mists dissipate one morning on the shadowy streets of Limehouse to reveal that Professor James Moriarty, archrival of Sherlock Holmes, has returned.

Their dramatic encounter at Reichenbach Falls three years earlier, it seems, was not the fateful confrontation the world had been led to believe—and now, with his nefarious energies undiminished, Moriarty is back in England to resume his control over the criminal netherworld. But what really did happen in Switzerland in 1891 between the Professor and the Great Detective? This is the question facing Detective Inspector Angus McCready Crow, whose mission it is to thwart and capture the elusive mastermind.

In this classic, suspenseful tale of the Victorian underworld, John Gardner delivers the dramatic first novel in his bestselling saga that confirms Professor James Moriarty as one of the most vividly imagined villains in literature.
Watson's Last Case - Ian Alfred Charnock
amazon.co.uk | amazon.com | amazon.ca

Quote:
An engaging pastiche of the tales of Dr. Watson, loyal partner to the famous Sherlock Holmes.

An unconventional take on the legend, the stories here are narrated by the ‘young’ Stamford, in the process of compiling some of Watson’s stories for posthumous publication. Delving into Watson’s past, he describes his escapades before, during and after the Great War. Under the instruction of the formidable Mycroft Holmes, Watson is dispatched overseas – with the fate of the empire and the outcome of the war resting on his shoulders. In a tumultuous epoch, Watson is at the forefront of a global emergency - told that the British government must be as ‘ruthless as its rivals’, or else ‘sink’ into oblivion.

From the action-packed thrills of Watson’s youth to the beginnings of Holmes’ scholarly life, the ‘Scholar’s Appendix’ changes direction with a speculative insight into Holmes’ past. From a young man destined to join the church to a theologian at Oxford University, this insight into his early years shines a light upon the origins of his incredible powers of observation and the science of deduction, for which he would become so legendary.

‘Watson’s Last Case’ provides an absorbing insight into uncharted territory of the Sherlock Holmes universe, it's a perfect read for fans of Sherlock Holmes.
