This firmware will work on all kobo7 devices (older ones will probably work too, but the kernel isn't included), even though it's supposed to be Nia only. There doesn't appear to be any new features, but there might be some bugfixes.

I suggest you watch the GitHub repository .

TLDR: Due to the improvements with kobopatch over the last year, only 7 offsets needed updating, so it only took a few minutes to update them. They'll be released once I test the firmware in a few minutes.

OK, so there is actually slightly more than bugfixes: when booting for the first time after the update, there's a pop-up about a free 30-day Kobo+ trial. There's also a new row for it in the account settings.

In addition, I'm not sure if this is new or not (it's the first time I've seen it), but the top-right of the homescreen with <2 books is showing the current author rather than recommendations for me right now.

The bug where the PIN entry would change sizes after entering the first digit has been fixed.

They rolled Kobo plus out in Canada along with the Nia which is probably why you’re seeing that.

As @MGlitch this new in Canada. There is a subscription service elsewhere, Belgium or the Netherlands from memory. I don't know if this is the same or a different service.

I don't think that has changed. Usually it shows recommendations because there are not enough books on the device to show anything else. It's usually triggers a "Kobo has to much advertising" complaint from new users.

Yes, that seems to be correct. I'm not sure about the content itself, but the branding is slightly different (it's called kobo+ read, and the + is circled with a refresh icon). At least in the Netherlands, the logo is just "koboplus".

That's interesting. I had ~400 tagged and sideloaded KEPUB books on it for the last few versions, and I only saw recommendations. Note that I always have a collection I'm opening my books from, so that's what shows in the bottom-right. I'll have to look at the logic later and see if I can figure it out.

Personally, I miss the "classic" home screen. I wish there was a way to patch it back in.

Just to add my usual post in the new firmware thread...

Other than the support for the Nia, I don't know of what the changes in this firmware are. It is intended only for the Nia, but, should work on the other Mark 7 devices with no issues.

calibre
For calibre, there are no changes needed for this firmware version. But, support for the is in calibre 4.21.0. You will need at least this version of calibre for it to recognise the Nia. Support for the Nia is also included in the calibre beta for Python 3 and Annotations support.

You cannot patch the old home screen. It's no longer part of the firmware.
