No TOC No Footnotes

I'm working with an epub. It displays perfectly when viewing it on ADE, but on my ClaraHD the TOC does not display at the beginning of the book. I can see the TOC by calling the little book menu at the bottom of the screen, where the progress bar is. And there are no footnotes. (the digits, 1, 2 etc, are placed where they should be, but they display as black text; there is no link).

I've looked in settings and don't see anything that would be turning those items off. Any idea what might be wrong? Thanks

The TOC you see when you go into the menu is built from the toc.ncx file, the HTML TOC you are looking for is not a required part of the ebook and can be left out.

If you would like someone to take a look at the book for you, there are a several options.

You can simply post the title/author and someone can take a look at the book if it's a freebie or one that they are interested in. In most cases, the book will have a free sample that will work for taking a quick look at the structure of the epub.

If the book is not copyright, you can post a copy here using the Attach Files. If it is copyright, you can use ScrambleEbook (a calibre plugin) and the attach the scrambled book here.

The other option is to attach it to a private message (PM).

Thanks for the input about the TOC. One issue solved.
And it turns out the missing footnotes aren't AWOL after all, but just incredibly tiny, as many of you pointed out in other threads. I finally created a small test file, converted it to epub, and then kept poking at the footnote until I found the sweet spot. Maybe they'll address that in an update?
Last issue: epub shows "unknown" for the title at the bottom of the screen. I attached the small test file. The title shows properly on top of the screen. Any ideas? Thanks again for the help.

The <title></title> in each XHTML file was set to <title>Unknown</title> and in the metadata, the dc:title was also set to unknown.

As for specifying Calibri and Times New Roman as fonts? Please, don't.

Ah-ha. I dl'd Calibre and see that I can edit epubs to correct problems such as I've encountered. I haven't tried that before, but it looks doable enough. But I also went back to the source file several times (a .docx) because it seemed I should be able to correct the <title>Unknown</title> issue there. I finally poked into corners I hadn't poked before, and found the answer in the properties of that source file, where I can "add a title". Thanks, DNSB. TJG
