Help with getting Kindle Books into Calibre

I'm on a MAC, OS Catalina 10.15.4

I was using Kindle Cloud reader with Chrome to "download books" bought from Amazon. The I used Epubor-kcr-converter to remove the DMR so I could then load them into Calibre. Since Amazon changed the cloud reader, I can now longer "download" books.

I have researched and others say use an older Kindle App on the MAC. But since I'm on Catalina, I can't use that method. I've tried the new Kindle App, but the way the books download is not a way that I can use the DeDRM tool in Calibre.

Any help or advice someone can give?

After years of being stuck on Sierra with my ancient 2010 MacBook Pro, I recently bought a new iMac running Catalina and set about to finally get all my Kindle books into Calibre. After reading several threads here and elsewhere, I found the best option for me was to bypass downloading the Kindle for Mac app at all.

Instead, I use the "Download & Transfer via USB" option when viewing the list of books in the Manage Your Content & Devices section of the Amazon website. Once the files were downloaded to my Mac, I used the standard Add feature in Calibre to import them.

I'll refrain from discussing methods for removing DRM, as that's frowned on here, but I'm sure you can find some references if you do a forum search.

Good luck,

Thank you for your help! Do you mind if I ask what USB you are using? I've been trying a few different things and I keep getting stuck on the USB. Amazon isn't recognizing any of the USB devices I'm trying.

The "Download and transfer via USB" requires you to have a Kindle eInk device registered in your "Manage your content and devices" page. If you don't have a registered device, you will get "No device is eligible for downloading the selected content" when you attempt to download the ebook. So you won't be able to download the file much less transfer it to the registered Kindle (as far as I am aware, the DRM on books transferred using "Download and transfer via USB" is tied to the serial number of the device you used to allow the download).

It might be time to look for an old Kindle that you can register to your account.

The DRM on KFX files with the latest Kindle for Mac cannot be removed.

See this thread about how to avoid the KFX format with the latest Kindle for Mac. Specifically, use method 2, and make sure you just download the books using Kindle for mac, not download and open.

This should mean that you get AZW/KF8 files downloaded instead.
