Maigret and the Informer, apa Maigret and the Flea, is the next to last in the Maigret series by Georges Simenon. It has dropped to £1.99 at Kindle UK.

Quote:
'You see, I mainly work at night. I've ended up getting to know everybody. They're used to me in Pigalle, I exchange a few words with this person or that person. I go into the bars and cabarets where they give me a quarter bottle of Vichy without waiting for me to order anything.'

An anonymous tip-off regarding the death of a restaurant owner sends Maigret into the world of Parisian nightlife, a notorious criminal gang and a man known as 'the Flea'.

This novel has been pubished in a previous translation as Maigret and the Flea.

Now £0.99 at Kindle UK as part of the Daily Deal. The cover might make you think this is an omnibus of Call for the Dead and The Spy Who Came in from the Cold, but NO! It's just a marketing ploy to make sure you know that this (Call) is an earlier title (actually the first in the series, apa The Deadly Affair) by the same author who wrote the more famous title (Spy) !!!

Murder Most Legal contains the first two volumes in Tony Dunbar's Tubby Dubonnet series, and the third and fourth volume (go figure!) in Julie Smith's Rebecca Schwartz series. It is free right now at Kindle US and UK. Like other booksbnimble titles these go on sale/free pretty often, but I don't see the early Dunbar titles pop up quite as often, so I'm posting this.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XP5756Y
Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B06XP5756Y

Spoiler:
Quote:
Legal thrillers with a twist

Two kickass lawyers take on a handful of colorful clients—and murder—from San Francisco Bay to the Big Easy.

Tubby Dubonnet is a simple man with a refined palate, a maverick New Orleans lawyer with a penchant for fishing, Old Fashioneds, off-track betting…and fighting evil while passing a good time. Rebecca Schwartz is a nice Jewish girl who just so happens to be a smart, savvy lawyer, with a few too many fantasies … and no qualms about telling it like it is. Tony takes on drugs, the Mob, and his impossible daughters while Rebecca wrestles with murder mystery at the aquarium and the most dangerous serial killer San Francisco’s ever seen. Four refreshing, page-turning legal puzzlers for a deal so reasonable, no one can object!

CROOKED MAN

The FIRST offbeat mystery in the TUBBY DUBONNET series by Anthony- and Edgar-nominated author Tony Dunbar

Tubby Dubonnet’s clients are all renegades from the asylum (aka Orleans Parish). His newest client is Darryl Alvarez, the manager of a local nightclub who's been caught unloading marijuana from a shrimp boat. At their first meeting, Darryl entrusts Tubby with an ordinary-looking blue gym bag. But after Darryl's unfortunate demise, Tubby realizes he must tighten his grasp on the gym bag -- and its million-dollar contents.

TOURIST TRAP

The THIRD book in Edgar-winner Julie Smith's Rebecca Schwartz series.

So what’s a nice Jewish girl doing at an Easter sunrise service? Lawyer Rebecca Schwartz would pick the one with the body nailed to the landmark cross! Coincidence? Not so much. She's there because her boy friend's covering the service for the San Francisco Chronicle. The body's there because someone's making a statement he doesn't want the press to miss.

Next: mass shellfish poisoning at Pier 39. A very different kind of serial killer is operating here—one who seems to have a grudge against the whole city.

CITY OF BEADS

The SECOND deliciously sneaky mystery in Anthony- and Edgar-nominated Tony Dunbar's Tubby Dubonnet series

Tubby Dubonnet is bored. He wants to bill enough hours to pay his alimony and keep his daughter in college, with enough left over for an occasional drink and a good meal, but he longs for something different and exciting. Sure, researching licensing law for the new casino will keep trout meunière on the table, but what could be more tedious? Meanwhile, there’s the estate of an old friend who controls some dock leases on the wharf. And he agrees to help his daughter’s environmental group stop illegal dumping in the river.

Suddenly all three cases begin to converge in an entirely ominous way–the toxic dumping, the dock leases, and the too-good-to-be-true casino job. How is that possible? Could it be Tubby’s been set up as the fall guy in a Mob effort to expand its gambling empire? NOW it's exciting — he's running for his life!

DEAD IN THE WATER

This is the FOURTH book in Edgar-winner Julie Smith’s Rebecca Schwartz series.

San Francisco lawyer Rebecca Schwartz has occasion to wonder when she and her weekend hostess, Marty Whitehead, find a body floating in the 30-foot kelp tower at the Monterey Aquarium, and Marty's promptly dragged off to the slammer.

Rebecca quickly grasps the Emily Post solution—sign on as Marty's lawyer, try to keep her client's two young kids out of the deep end, and somehow avoid drowning in the sea of lies gushing from Marty's mouth--and everyone else’s. There’s a lot of intrigue among the aquarium's oceangoing primates, as well as rumors of a pearl beyond price.

Several titles in the Hawker thriller series by Randy Wayne White, written using pen name Carl Ramm, have dropped to $1.99 each at Kindle US, as well as an omnibus of the first three titles at $2.99. There's also one early Doc Ford title, North of Havana, at $1.99 right now, both at Kindle and Kobo US. I've read and liked some of White's Doc Ford titles, but have never tried the Hawker series, which looks a little more thriller-ish than I usually like. But at $2.99 for the first three, I'll probably try the omnibus.

The Seventh Sinner is the first in one of the two lesser-known series by Elizabeth Peters (Barbara Michaels), the Jacqueline Kirby series. I'm actually a bit fonder of both of the "lesser" series - Jacqueline Kirby and Vicky Bliss - than I am of Peters' more famous Amelia Peabody series, but FWIW I like them all, so it's just a matter of degree.

Anyway, Sinner has dropped to $2.99 at Kindle US.

Quote:
At first, Jean Suttman thought she had died and gone to Heaven when she was granted the opportunity to study in Rome. But the body that's lying in the ancient subterranean Temple of Mithra—the murdered corpse of a repulsive and disliked fellow student—isn't her idea of heavenly. Now she is truly frightened, not just because small "accidents" seem to be occurring around her with disturbing regularity. It's the ever-increasing certainty that someone, for some unknown reason, is ruthlessly determined to do her harm. Jean's innocent underground excursion into a sacred pagan place has trapped her in something dark and terrifying, and even the knowledge that practical, perceptive fellow American Jacqueline Kirby is on the case won't ease her fears. Because there's only so far Jean Suttman can run . . . and no escape for her except death.

After a long gap, during part of which she published some titles in another series, Candace Robb has now written two new titles in her longer Owen Archer series. The next-to-most-recent, A Conspiracy of Wolves, has dropped to $2.99 at Kindle US, probably due to the most recent, which came out a few days ago. I quite liked a lot of the earlier books, which I mostly read in DTB, but haven't read either of these two recent ones.

link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QBQWK9Q

Spoiler:
Quote:
When a prominent citizen is murdered, former Captain of the Guard Owen Archer is persuaded out of retirement to investigate in this gripping medieval mystery.

1374. When a member of one of York’s most prominent families is found dead in the woods, his throat torn out, rumours spread like wildfire that wolves are running loose throughout the city. Persuaded to investigate by the victim’s father, Owen Archer is convinced that a human killer is responsible. But before he can gather sufficient evidence to prove his case, a second body is discovered, stabbed to death. Is there a connection? What secrets are contained within the victim’s household? And what does apprentice healer Alisoun know that she’s not telling?

Teaming up with Geoffrey Chaucer, who is in York on a secret mission on behalf of Prince Edward, Owen’s enquiries will draw him headlong into a deadly conspiracy.

It's probably worth noting that Robb appears to have gotten the rights back to her earlier titles, both Owen Archer and Dame Margaret Kerr, which go on sale pretty often, often enough that I don't mention them any more. So if you like the series, you can put your own eReaderIQ on them, or just keep an eye out.

I was lucky enough to receive a review copy of Poppy Redfern and the Midnight Murders, which is the first, and so far only, title in the Poppy Redfern series by Tessa Arlen. (The second title should be out in December...) I enjoyed this first title a lot, and now it has dropped to $2.99/£1.99 at Kindle US/UK respectively. It is also $2.99 at Kobo US.

Charming and feisty Poppy Redfern stumbles into murder in this exciting new World War II historical mystery series from critically acclaimed author Tessa Arlen.

Summer 1942. The world has been at war for three long and desperate years. In the remote English village of Little Buffenden, Poppy Redfern’s family house and farmland has been requisitioned by the War Office as a new airfield for the American Air Force. As the village's Air Raid Warden, Poppy spends her nights patrolling the village as she tries to ease her neighbors’ fears about the “Friendly Invasion” and what it means to their quiet way of life.

When two young, popular women who were dating American servicemen are found strangled, Poppy quickly realizes that her little town has been divided by murder. The mistrust and suspicion of their new American partners in war threatens to tear Little Buffenden apart. Poppy decides to start her own investigation with the help of a charismatic American pilot and she soon unearths some chilling secrets and long-held grudges. Poppy will have no choice but to lay a trap for a killer so perilously close to home, she might very well become the next victim....

The same price structure ($2.99 in the US, £1.99 in the UK) also applies to Singapore Sapphire, which is also the first, and for now only, title in the Harriet Gordon series by A. M. Stuart, with a follow-on title coming in September. I haven't read this one, but it looks to be my sort of thing .

Spoiler:
Quote:
Early twentieth-century Singapore is a place where a person can disappear, and Harriet Gordon hopes to make a new life for herself there, leaving her tragic memories behind her--but murder gets in the way.

Singapore, 1910--Desperate for a fresh start, Harriet Gordon finds herself living with her brother, a reverend and headmaster of a school for boys, in Singapore at the height of colonial rule. Hoping to gain some financial independence, she advertises her services as a personal secretary. It is unfortunate that she should discover her first client, Sir Oswald Newbold--explorer, mine magnate and president of the exclusive Explorers and Geographers Club--dead with a knife in his throat.

When Inspector Robert Curran is put on the case, he realizes that he has an unusual witness in Harriet. Harriet's keen eye for detail and strong sense of duty interests him, as does her distrust of the police and her traumatic past, which she is at pains to keep secret from the gossips of Singapore society.

When another body is dragged from the canal, Harriet feels compelled to help with the case. She and Curran are soon drawn into a murderous web of treachery and deceit and find themselves face-to-face with a ruthless cabal that has no qualms about killing again to protect its secrets.

The Twelve Clues of Christmas has gone on sale previously in both December 2018 and December 2019, which kind of makes sense. Now for some reason, it's on sale in the middle of the summer. Go figure! But, if for some reason, you're feeling like you need Christmas in July (which is entirely possible), here it is. Links and pricing in the post below are still good...
