Can you give some examples of books where it doesn't get the page count? Not all books or editions of the books have the page count on GR. The plugin is getting the page count for the edition you chose. If that edition doesn't have a page count, it can't get it.

Ah, yeah I think this is it, I totally forgot about the 'edition' problem. That is rather annoying because AFAIK there's no way to remedy it other than to go to goodreads, find the physical edition with the page number on it and manually change the ID right? Fetch metadata will always choose the 'main' edition even if it doesn't show page numbers.

The GR metadata source plugin uses what it thinks is the best match. If there is an ISBN or ASIN, then they will be used and probably get the matching edition.

If you have the Goodreads Sync plugin, you can use it to choose the edition. It has a function to get all the editions for the book and let you choose. I do that if I notice it. Otherwise, you need to pick it on GR and updated the id for the book.

I can see the correct page count on my Calibre books but when I try to push it to my Kindle Voyage it doesn't show up in the book. I followed the instructions in the screenshots, any tips?

nevermind, I found the post in this thread that mentions you have to edit the custom column option in KFX conversion. works fine now!

Fresh install on Win 10 Pro system.

1. Installed "wordcount" (no quotes) as variable name of a new column. Clicked the check box to activate it. Restarted Calibre.

2. Right-clicked on a (random) book title -->Page Count-->customise plugin.

I want to set "word count options" by pulling down the "Custom column" drop-down to select the proper variable name (i.e. "wordcount") but the drop-down box is empty.

The plugin does not seem to be aware of the Wordcount column I created. Am I missing something? (Thanks for your help!)

Your column is of the wrong type: It needs to be Integer

You will have to delete the column and re-add - the column type can't be changed once it's set.

I installed this plugin today and I couldn't get the page number that Calibre shows (if "position in book" is selected in the header/footer). How should I customize this plugin to get that?

(I'm on Calibre 4.22)

Theoretically, you should go to Customize Plugin > Statistics tab > Page Count Options > Algorithm: "E-book Viewer (calibre)". But I think calibre may have changed its algorithm, so it doesn't match now.

On my testings, you could choose "Custom (Chars Per Page)", and set it to 1300. That would be around calibre viewer number.

Thanks for your reply. I tried 1350, 1360, 1380.... One returns the matching page number for a book and not for others. I think the algorithm is more complicated than that.

The "E-book Viewer (calibre)" calculation is from the pre-4.0 version of calibre. I haven't looked at the current version before today. I'm not sure, but, it seems be using the number of non-whitespace characters divided by 1000. With some complications. Apparently a picture is worth a 1000 characters.
