Free ebooks not loading in Fire HD 8 (10th Generation)?

I've got a report that mobi files from Project Gutenberg and other free ebook providers (I run Unglue.it and help with PG) are failing to load on the new Fire HD 8 (10th Generation) with the error message: "Invalid item. This item is protected by DRM and cannot be read on your Fire. Please remove the item from your device and download it again or purchase a copy from the Kindle Store".

I found an old thread https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=324986 where a similar error could be fixed with a factory reset, but the new Fire appears to be resistant to this fix.

Can anyone confirm this issue?

you may want to raise this in amazon forums, where there are likely to be more customers with same device
as I recall from the older instance, its was not a general bug across all devices from a specific year, it was isolated to a few? devices and never really solved.
it may be better to work around it by calibre-convert of mobi to azw then see if the conversions sideload & work ok
but just in case someone is willing to check, post links to a couple of PG books that throw this error, so that so one else can try the same downloads. [ only do that for public domain titles ]

Latest indications are that any mobis downloaded via the embedded "silk" browser are assumed to be DRM encumbered. Sideloaded files appear to be ok. calibre convert does not appear to solve the problem. Here are some sample downloads from different sources:

Will that's easy to workaround. Add Google services then lots of alternative browsers are available. Chrome's brave. Firefox. Edgez opera... Add the ones you like then make one the default.

There noting silk can do that other browsers cant
