For future reference, that's the second thing https://github.com/jgoguen/calibre-kobo-driver/pull/102 fixes ;p.

(i.e., the fix is already queued for the next release).

Pending a new release, here's a current build from git of the full set of plugins.

Should fix the container issue *without* introducing any new ones (hopefully ^^).

Works well, so far! Thank you, that's the easiest way of a workaround (as I don't know where the backup of the settings/plugins folder is).

YOUR backup of important files (IMHO the Library and settings )
Ya know, the one you need when your HD or system goes off the deep end

Please update this post and state EXACTLY what it is. "Previous" could mean any older version. And stating the source of this copy would be a good idea.

v3.2.10 is up. Thanks to Kovid pointing out I can run arbitrary Python in calibre's environment with calibre-debug I'm slowly adding some actual tests. Pretty clearly this demonstrates why they're so badly needed.

Device: Kobo Clara HD (patched, 100% kepubs); Calibre 5 (Win10)
I had updated to 3.2.9 yesterday and I have updated to 3.2.10 today: newly-synced books won't show up on the Kobo.

Converting to kepub and syncing to Kobo work as usual, but after unplugging the device and waiting for it to process the new books, these books just won't show up in 'My Books' library.
This happens both with newly-converted kepubs and with old kepubs.

Deleting books from the device works as expected (after removing them they don't show up), but adding or re-adding books to the device doesn't work.

But, lets try...
I'm sorry if it came across as insulting. It wasn't supposed to be, and I'd tried hard at my end to bend over backwards to make it clear how grateful I am for the existence of the plugin at all.

But the model "get your OS from the OS people and your apps from the app people" is a Windows model of computer use, not a Linux model. Most people who use Linux stick fairly rigidly to the software that's distributed under the repository+indices+dependencies model because we know how many things start to break, and how balkanised and unsupportable our systems get, if we don't. This doesn't mean "only software distributed by the OS people", but it does mean "only software that's been built specifically for the environment provided by the version of the distro I'm choosing to run".

If this computer had no job other than to run Calibre, I'd follow your advice in a heartbeat. But it does many hundreds of important things for me other than that, most of which are in fact more important than running Calibre, and I can't endanger them all by starting to install bits of software that are not intended specifically to work with it.

I repeat, yet again, that it's absolutely fine if you don't want to support that software model. Your plugin is a marvellous thing, which makes the world a better place. I just wanted to try to shed a little light on why you might get pushback from some Linux users when you say "just upgrade Calibre". It's not because we feel entitled, or wish to insult you, or prize you at nought; it's because of decades of experience that suggests that following that software maintenance model doesn't work well for us.

And I can only repeat the observation that at least one other Calibre plugin community doesn't feel that way. That doesn't mean you have to feel any particular way at all! It just means it's unwise to confuse "I choose to do otherwise because it's a better use of my limited and valuable time" with "it's impossible". I know your time is limited, and valuable, and it's very much up to you how you spend it.

Indeed, and I for one am grateful for it, even though it cannot benefit me at this time.

I'm only using the KoboTouch-extended driver (without converting before sending to device), but I personally can not confirm this: after deleting a book on the device (what I by chance had to do today because of some errors in the book) and re-sending from the library, there were no problems.

The problem is that mot repositories have botched Calibre. They supply an old version or they have the Python 3 beta or it's not packaged correctly. This is why the Windows model works better because Windows users actually get the correct version.

The repository is the part of the reason that there are more support questions from Linux users then Windows users an OS X users combined.

You chose to use the repository and you chose to install the wrong version. The repository then doesn't update and you stick with the wrong version. If this is how Linux works, I'll stick with Windows. Saying to update is the correct thing to do. If the way Calibre is handled with updates does not work for you, then stop using Calibre. Calibre is not going to change to fit your outdated usage model. The way to get software is no to get it it from an unknown source when there is a know safe source to get it from. The repository is lousy as you can see from the botch job done to Calibre.
