When a book is opened for reading the cover image will be extracted from the book, resized to fit the screen, and a copy saved for use by the screensaver. As far as I can tell it should be possible to create a dummy book with whatever cover you want and open it just before shutting down the Kindle in order to get your own custom screensaver. From what I undestand, the issue was created by Amazon. (Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.) I don't know about calibre being the fix, except from what I've read that the new version does, indeed, 'fix' this issue. (Remember, I can't enjoy the benefits of the newest calibre, as previously mentioned.) My computer is 10 years old, and I should buy the newest model when computer stores open back up again [in the country I'm in]. In the meantime, it would sure be great to have a plug-in written especially for the 3.x.x. version of calibre - if, as reported, calibre can fix this issue of the disappearing covers from side-loaded ebooks. |

^ It will blow away ALL the sideloaded covers, or just the one being downloaded (in your explanation)?

I don't recall if this has been mentioned before (but probably), but another (painstaking) approach is to make sure your book's ASIN match their actual Kindle edition. That way the download will find the right cover all on its own. Might not be *your* (i.e., Calibre's) cover, but it's better than nothing . Calibre has always been able to handle that automatically if an ASIN is set properly via the Ids field on the metadata editor, IIRC. Sidebar: I haven't used a Kindle in years. There may be a few settings in the conversion process that enforce setting a bogus ASIN, or no ASIN, or something that'll screw with this (thinking of the 'allow sharing' stuff or something). (Sideloading on Kindle is a giant mess, Calibre manages to hide a lot of that from users, but it's a mess nonetheless). Last edited by NiLuJe; 06-07-2020 at 01:08 PM. |

cdeType, metadata, thumbnails, format quirks, apnx, the indexer, the cover downloader, collections (or lack thereof), ... Should I go on? Amazon wants you to buy stuff (and it's very good at it). You being able to sideload stuff is more or less an annoying fact that they mostly tolerate. |

				solution

someone already published the solution https://www.reddit.com/r/kindle/comm...FstY_D7oy_GyCb Is that how it works you load the book with caliber and before disconnecting it from caliber you go to kindle / system / tumbnails and you see the miniature cover copy and paste it on the desktop then you disconnect from caliber the kindle screen is erased reconnect and you copy and paste that mini cover with the original name in the folder in kindle / system / tumbnails and ready you disconnect and you no longer lose your cover :thum bsup: |

^ ....which means all my Kindle Unlimited ebooks I choose must be side-loaded and then deleted from calibre, I would presume, after having read them.

goodereader.com mentions a glitch in the last update on covers not showing on sideloaded content. For me, all-new Audible purchases cover art are not showing. Normally they show up in a day or so once the device stops indexing but not anymore. thumbnails show on my tablets just not on ereaders
