This applies to every feature on either device that the other lacks and is solely dependent on the person buying the device to rank in importance. I like that I can use the patches from here to tweak my reading experience, that's an important feature for me. I don't read on multiple devices so whispersync is meaningless to me. I recognize that for someone else those positions may be reversed. Neither of would be wrong, and we would both be right. |

Then why is it that a number of people come here to try to get the Kindle jailbroken to add features that Kobo already has?

I’d love it if Kobo dropped the sub 8” lines and produced a Forma 2 which improved the lighting, had a base 32gb storage with SD card, used USB C, I could go on. However there are people who would hate that device even though they may like Kobos software. Neither I nor these hypothetical people would agree on all the hardware specs. And none of us would be wrong for getting the device we felt best fit our needs. That’s great. Other people do. Thus for them the feature is important. |

The Libra is pretty much my fantasy Kobo, I don't really need anything else hardware-wise. But they should fix their epub and kepub renderers (better typography with kepubs and allow image zooming plus overall speed improvement with epubs).

On balance, I think my H2O2 is as close to my ideal as I can expect. I don't read comics so 8GB is fine, The shape means it still fits in most of my pockets (even in its origami case), and since I couldn't give a continental about the æsthetics of ligatures, I'm ok with kepub typesetting. Close enough really is good enough

So why is there so much 'patching'? & why are people looking for the patch to display current time while reading; something the Kindle already has. My 'patching' is just with ksm09 for the addition of the koreader; perhaps my KA1 LE problems are related to not enough patches. |

I have a feeling that if Kobo was to update RMSDK to the current version that there would be no need for Access (KePub). I would be very much OK with that. I mostly read ePub because of all the things wrong with Access.

As for Kobo, patching is something that's not requiring any security holes. Kobo leaves the firmware pretty much open. That's why Calibre can manage eBooks much better with Kobo. All Calibre can do with a Kindle (no jailbrek) is send the book to the storage. People ask for things because they may be able to be done with Kobo. Where you can't do anything with a Kindle that's not jailbroken and even then what you can do is a lot more limited. |

Jon,
Do you use Calibre to manage your ebooks? How do you send to Kobo (via calibre) without convert to kepub? Using the kobo extended driver the conversion isn't automatically? I want to try the epub format but want to send via calibre, it's possible? |
