Power drain on PW3

I noticed that my PW3 has had a huge power drain over the last week or so. I haven't added many new books, but I suspect it may be stuck indexing.

Is there a way to find out?

Try searching for a nonsense string of letters you know will not be in any of your books, such as qqxkjjz. It should find no books with that in, but if it can't search some books it will say it couldn't search those as they're still indexing.

I did that, but it came back with no books.

The other night, I also noticed that the screent started to show that warm-cigarette-stain-yellow/orange backlight instead of the cool, blue backlight.

I ended up resetting the Kindle since there were a lot of books and docs on it, over 3g and there were about 1500+ search indexes. Resetting it put it back to the cool backdrop and it is holding the charge better.

I guess it wasn't really meant to handle a large amount of books and docs, lol!

Is that really the case? If so, I’ll probably need to have another look at the library I’m carrying on my device.

Last year I replaced my PW2 with a PW4 and this March my puppy expressed his boredom by gently chewing on it. I’ve been using this second PW4 since then and it feels like I need to re-juice it every fortnight whereas my previous devices would sustain my normal usage for a longer period.

I did have an index problem once. It was with my PW2 though and it was easily detectable, as John Hopper suggested above. That's not the case now.

Mine is also slower than it was when it had 5.6.5 on it. It has now 5.12.4 and it is much slower and the battery runs out of power faster.

Just out of curiosity, how many more books do you have on it now than you did when it had 5.6.5 on it? Have you tried re-booting it lately?

Not too many... more than it was at that time, but if that's a problem then please don't sideload/download more than let's say 5 books on your Kindle at once, because they can cause problems.

If this is the case, then firmware developers did something wrong. I have 153 books but most of them are articles or laws (+ dictionaries), so not so long as a book.

I restarted many times of course, it doesn't help.

No wonder the Amazon has called off the 5.12.4. But it was available when I updated my Kindle.

That is the problem. Amazon backed off the download for 5.12.4 but left it on the OTA server and thus 5.12.4 still was installed and because Amazon has decided to dump the PW3, 5.12.5 is not available to fix the mess that 5.12.4 left.

ut = but and fi = fix

From what I've read, the Voyage is clearer then the PW3.

Oh OK. I haven't had a Kindle all that long so charging it every few days when it gets down to say 75% for a few minutes doesn't bother me much.
