2.0.2 update to k2

Darn it, just realized it didn't completely get rid of the ghosting issue, either.

Daffy4U - I just compared the cookbook on a Kindle 2 with 2.0.1, Kindle 2 with 2.0.2, and Kindle 1 with the latest firmware. The illustration refresh is odd, just as you described on both Kindle 2's with either version of the firmware. The Kindle 1 is much better at presenting the image. I can't see a difference in presenting a normal text page on the Kindle 2's but see that a page with bullets on it does the weird refresh on the Kindle 2's. Note that I'm the kind of guy who has to hit replay a few more times when trying to figure out what happened in a sporting event so I may not be able to see what is obvious to others..

Hmm, my Kindle has not auto-downloaded the 2.0.2 update, but did with the 2.0.1. I wonder why not.

They tend to roll out the updates in waves (maybe not to overwhelm Whispernet).

When K1 updated to 1.2, I did the update manually because it was taking forever for it to get to me.

zipzip - Try to hit sync a few times. We live out in a non 3G are and got the update by keeping on the Kindle 2 for about 30 mins.

I have to update myself. I went back to reading the book I was reading before the update and I do *not* notice any weird morphing. The page turns look normal to me. I'm wondering if there is something about the Illustrated Cookbook that is causing what I was seeing (it's not a Topaz book).

I don't have the Illustrated Cookbook, so I know it's not that here. I tried two different books and the Amazon Daily. It's like the letters go from soft focus to sharp, almost like focusing on a camera. Pictures seem to flash twice.

You don't have to. 2.0 can be updated directly to 2.0.2.

Sorry the comment I made was misleading. When I said to install in sequence I meant that you should install the bin files in the order I mentioned. Specifically this order:

(1) Update_kindle2_restore_default_screen_savers.bin
(2) Update_kindle_2.0.2.bin
(3) Update_kindle2_user_screen_savers.bin

Duh! I said it was making me crazy. Just as some folks have issues with fading in the sun and others don't, why is it hard for you to believe that some of us are having problems with screen refresh due to the update?

When I compared looking at a page with simply text the refresh looks the same with 2.0.1 and 2.0.2 and the Kindle 1. The weird image refresh (almost like a stutter refresh) in the Illustrated Cookbook is obvious. It is also obvious if there are bullets or weird fonts used on indents in that book. I have seen the same thing on Chapter Title pages with other books if the top of the page has some graphic elements in it - with the Kindle 2.0 only - Kindle 1 does not do this.

We aren't crazy - it is real.
