I think a combination of competing with the K2 and maybe preparing for a launch up an upgraded 700 with Wi-Fi (a little bird has fed me a rumor).

Mine has been at Sony for almost 2 months now. I'm hoping the hold is a new shipment of updated models, but I doubt it. Whatever they do I'm sure I'll get screwed somehow.

Does anyone else find it curious they didn't reduce the price of the 505 too? If they pushed the street price down to $225 or even $199 it would be hard for anyone to justify the K2, and also give more people an excuse to try e-book reading.

I don't think they can drop them that low without selling below cost. Last time I saw the cost of eInk screens they were still quite a pricey part.

get names and rank and follow up with a demand letter. What you want is some kind of ETA or status on your reader at the very least. Funny thing is, when Sony contacted me from "SonyListens" they told me somone would call me after I detailed the issues for them. To date no call or follow up. Perhaps they knew my issues were not on the same level as yours.

The big announcement this morning about Sony and Google shows why they cut the cost Well earlier after Kindle+iPhone and BN + FW I predicted that Sony will pair with Borders in a major announcement - wrong about the partner, but right about the pairing Next I think is Mobipocket officially winding down the moment Kindle enters Europe in strength. |

 Will it be enough?

I don't think this will entice many. People who looked and dismissed it earlier because of the inferior screen will probably not be moved by a $50 discount. What is really needed is a recall and re-issue, otherwise, the other readers coming out later this year will trample it.

I'm sorry I have to say, that for me, the PRS-700 is a step backward - especially the reading experience through that display.
