As I picked up my old first-gen Kindle PW this morning and felt how much softer the real leather case was vs the PU leather case on my Kobo I realized another reason why people might prefer Kindle over Kobo -- there are a WHOLE lot more case choices for the Kindle, and it's unfortunate that there are few really high quality cases for the Kobo.

I changed all four values to 3. Things seem much nicer to me. No weird hyphenations.
Thanks. I'll create a new version with 3/3 and post it in the thread that has the other dictionaries and say that it's for those that mostly read KePub.

Are you sure that manually editing that .dic file has any effect for those that read kepub?

Hyphens-related CSS does work for kepub, as I posted in the KoboTouchExtended plugin thread.

Other than the launcher/menu & Koreader, my KA1 is 'naked' as I have not installed any patches. This latest 4.21 firmware update the other day, did not disable my menu selection for either doing nickle or koreader. Your claiming that a firmware update will destroy the launcher/menu is inadequate. Oh, I think the launcher(?) was KSM09 or something like that as that was recommended over KMON.

I think I have always did the firmware update process selecting the 'recommended'/controlled way. Reread your comment & think that you are thinking the updates were for Koreader & not the KA1. That brings the question whether Koreader is the culprit as I thought the notice about "handling your updates first" meant that it was a firmware update & not an application update; & that the app update can lock up the KA1 from doing anything; & that means a bug in the OS.

Don't think I did a check on what firmware version after an OTA update except this last one when someone claimed the 4.21 will solve things as it will provide a 'better reading experience'. AND the menu launcher still works after the OTA firmware 4.21 update as I still had a choice of selection Koreader or Nickle; selected Nickle as it does not lock my library listing to be alphabetical.
No, @DNSB was talking about Kobo firmware updates, just as you were.

The reason he questioned what happened is that KSM (the "launcher/menu") works by modifying one of the files in the firmware. And the firmware update will replace that file. That means that whenever the firmware update is done, KSM will be disabled. But, KSM can do the firmware update in a way that KSM is not disabled. If the firmware update is done from inside nickel (the actual Kobo application that is running) then I would expect KSM to be disabled. If you did it from KSM, then it probably did update in a way that KSM made sure it was still active.

Hm. I used to like real leather cases, but they are heavy. One of the big advantages of a modern eareader is its lightness. An advantage instantly destroyed by adding a leather case.

Noreve e.g. makes stunnigly beautiful covers in a wide veriaty of leathers. As long as you just buy one, they are really great. Just try not to get them to exchange one of the custom made cases. Even if it is not working properly. I had a nightmarish experience with them.

Other cases can be found on etsy. They do not sell them at the Kobo store like Amazon does for their ereaders, but say there are few is a stretch.

I was having fun brushing up my German reading while looking at lovely covers for my H2O (and rolling my eyes at Dünnes, kompaktes und leichtes Design - Englisch Ist EveryWo!) Until I saw "Visit our English language website with prices in Dollars" (e.a.) - the site uses the $ symbol, so I had no idea the already painful prices were in EUROS! - I loved German at school and hated maths, but as rusty as my German is, my maths is still good enough to make sure I don't pay more for my reader's COVER than I did for the reader.

As a genuine answer, and one that I would consider if a sale dropped cheap enough, would be to get access to Kindle Unlimited.
(DRM stripping from KU books is IMHO scummy, as it deprives the author or any payment, so it is Kindle app on the phone or Kindle device.)

If one keeps the WiFi off and then turns it on, will all the past KU eBook get their data sent to Amazon?

I didn't realize it linked to their bad German translation and Euros. Sorry! Or not sorry ;-)

Regarding the prices. I bought the cover for the Aura One in 2016. The Aura One was 240€ IIRC, so buying an expensive cover was more than ok. I doubt I'd buy one for a Clara however.

Thank you for the explanation. Now wondering if my encounters with the KA1 LE OS is due to KSM09!

Also recalled that I read that the 'collections' is in ram & not a 'database'; sounds like the disappearance of my books from the collections was due to ram problem or power to the ram.

Was not going to say anything about the title except that the OP did alot of scamming about reader apps "not honoring" the PUBLISHERS' settings but really meant that he wanted to have his css changes to be 'set in stone'.

The title of the thread just reminds me that 'reviewers' claim that the best device to read ebooks was the ipad; a major lie as the best device is personal preference on how one wants to view the book with his eyesight.

Me, I just read for entertainment & escape & do not care how the text is formatted; just hopefully I can enjoy reading the book since printed books are not always formatted to an individual's preference, especially when I see the printed books are printed with 'fine' line letters & look more gray than black & tiny.
